Tournament Report Rules. Please read before posting!

In order to ensure the best experience possible for your readers, please follow these guidelines when writing your tournament report. Otherwise, your report may be deleted.

Posts in this section become the property of Upper Deck Entertainment.

Avoid inappropriate content.

Writers shouldn’t submit articles with content that might reflect poorly on them, the game, the player base, PTOs, store owners, judges, or UDE employees. Obscenities and derogatory statements regarding religion, politics, gender, and race/ethnicity should never be included in a tournament report.

Keep it positive.

We want you to express yourself and tell us all about your experience, but please keep your posts positive and avoid negativity regarding the game, the MMO, UDE, or Blizzard.

Use everything you learned in school.

Even though this is a tournament report and not a term paper, the clearer you make your points and the easier your report is to read, the more people will enjoy it. This means you should capitalize and punctuate properly, proofread, and run the report through a spellchecker. Make sure that what you’re writing is something you would want to read if someone else had posted it.

Title posts appropriately.

In the subject line of your post, please list the location, date and format of your tournament.

We want everyone who wishes to contribute to be encouraged to do so, and we don’t expect everyone to have a master’s degree in English. Still, try to make your report as good as it can be. The WoW TCG community will appreciate it.

Hey everyone! To those of you who made it out to Mission Valley Resort in beautiful San Diego for the Realm Championships, glad to have you here! You'll read about this later. For the rest of you...you slackers, why are you not here?!

Kidding. I understand not everyone could make it out this weekend, which is why I'm hoping you'll stumble into this thread to check out the live updates I'll be making throughout Saturday and Sunday. Check out all the gritty details, including what people are playing, what the realm metagame is, which constructed decks finished at 3-0, which draft strategies worked out best, and more importantly who is going to be crowned the Tanaris Realm Champion.

I'll be updating you with feature matches, draft reports, and general happenings here in San Diego. I'll also be updating my Twitter account, which you can find here. Also, if you have a Facebook account, be sure to check out the Tanaris Realm Championships group here.

Pictures will be linked here from Twit pics, and we'll have live coverage for you starting in round 3. Best of luck to everyone here today!

Hey,

Just wanted to post some of my experiences. From the six boosters, I managed to crack 5 usable rares, respectively Dispersion, Encrusted Zombie Finger, Talismanic Textiles, Devouring Plague and Flint Shadowmore (the sixth being the Great Kodo). I went 3-2 (kind of disappointing), but had a ton of fun and got some great trades after the tourney, so here's my list of new rares / epics as of today (I payed someone to play for me = 12+4 prize boosters)

The most valuable cards I had today :

Flint Shadowmore - attacked into the hero and killed 2-3 allies with a single attack a couple of times.
Encrusted Zombie Finger - fit into my priest perfectly, and gave me some fun times.
Devouring Plague - emptied the hand of my opponent more often than not while maintaining 3 dmg / turn.
Dispersion - won me a game while Plague was ticking on the opponent.
Priest ally at a cost of 6 - 4/6 with Mend 2. Let me flip my hero, healed me and destroyed abilities every match.

I scrubbed out of the Season 5 qualifier (go go ridiculous draw! go go 2x mirror match! and Voidfire wand!), and Andrew's currently duking out the last round for maaaaaaaaaybe an 8th place finish. More when that's finished.

Tucson WOW Tanaris Champs report!

Realms Champs, you’ve slogged your way through the qualifiers, you’ve got a couple Rogue deck boxes, and you’re ready to go to San Diego and kick some butt right? Well, all but the last part is cool if you’re not from Tucson! (It’s ok Mark, I’ll Lethem know how you did at the end)

It’s still in work, but I’m filling it up as fast as I can…… you should check it out.

At this point you already know who won and who didn’t at the Tanaris RC’s, but what you don’t know is all of the crazy crap that went on for the 8 peeps from Tucson as we spread our brand of fun all over the mission Valley resort and beyond! Read on…….

2 cars holding 8 folks left the east side of Tucson at 5:30am on Fri, we had a 7 hour or so drive and still had to get to the LCQ before 3 in San Marcos. The drive itself was fine; there was always someone awake to talk too for the road, very nice. For the trip we had:

The first bit of craziness was at the resort. We check in, get our keys and head toward the room. As Steve goes to open the door the maid pokes her head out of the room and waves us off, weird, I thought the room was ready. SO we wait 15 minutes and she lets Steve in, the other 7 of us follow closely behind. 8 players in a 10-15 foot room, 2 double beds and not a lot of floor space, we had brought an n air mattress though, so only 2 have to crash on the floor. SO, 10 minutes into it while we wait for Dani to get out of the bathroom I start handing out the keys to the room (4 of them) to a few of the guys and announce to them that we are in room 006. Steve is like, “no we’re not, we’re in 005.” I quickly inform him that the guy wrote 006 on the sleeve…. Did anyone try the lock? Hell no, the maid let us in! WRONG ROOM! Scramble to get out and into the right room, taking any and all extra blankets and towels with us… Jay did get spotted with an arm load of those by the maid, dirty looks for all. All the while we are cracking loud and funning around. I had to jump on the bed one last time…. Not my room. ^_^

So, we get up to the LCQ with a few minutes to spare, always a good thing. Sky High Comics is a nice little store, I do mean little however, not a lot of floor space. First things first I see that part of the Vegas crowd has shown for the LCQ, Tim Rivera, Robert Swarowski, and Niles Rowland. We get inside and get to meet Mike Rosenberg, (Tlarlo on the boards) as he was judging and TO’ing the event. Come to find out some of the others in the event were the forums own GamertotheBone and the eventual Realm open winner Aaron Stein. There was another player other than our 8 that showed but I’m afraid I didn’t get his name. So 14 total duked it out.

No need to get into specifics, my Obliveron deck decided to play “ok” and I took fourth place with my only loses to Tim in rd 4 and then again in the top 4. We declined a cake draft invite, talked with UDE’s own Ry Schueller and generally made our presence known. I’m not sure Mike knew exactly what to do with us at first. We were already getting loud and having fun.

Jay cracking a Weldon from a random Drum’s pack and everyone flinching when my flash went off are just a few of the things that happened while we there. A nice event Mike, thanks for holding it and definitely thanks for pushing it back until 3, we never would have survived if it started at 12!

So, the 8 of us get back to the resort, try a practice draft to clear the cobwebs (we didn’t play, we just drafted it out and then talked about what we thought and gave some ideas as to what we should have done) then we crashed… or tried to. The air mattress had holes in it (Thanks Tuna) and room was tight.

Day 1:

The next morning some folks complained about the snoring from Rene, Mark and I. I have no sympathy, they were warned to get earplugs, Tuna just laughed at them, he survived Gen Con with us and we had 2 more heavy snorers then. Even sleeping we are loud.

After an eventful night Steve and I got up early and headed over to the ballroom before grabbing a bite to eat. While poking around we walked into Victor Cantu, organizer for the weekend and come to find out (not that it was in doubt) all around great guy. He was working alone, so Steve and I offered to assist. We kicked around for a few then promised to be back after grabbing a bite at the restaurant attached to the resort. Food was good, the other guys came in and I threw some deck list sheets to them and told them when to be in the ballroom, Steve and I left to help some more.

We helped Victor get set up as much as we could and shot the bull for abit as things started falling into place. Always good to know the folks in charge gotta butter them up for when we start acting a little crazy and loud!

Before the players meeting we as a group get to meet Paul E. Coyote and his video camera. He was already starting to get footage and we were already ourselves, so……

Paul saw that Dani had done a custom play mat; she bought a blank, and did her artistic thing on it. “A Hunter’s paradise” Just about every Hunter pet printed is on this thing and I will say the work is just amazing. Paul even did a 3-5 minute thing with Dani on tape talking about it…. More to come on that.

Next was “running into” the Phx crowd. Big Dog (aka the other Kevin Lambert) the Bros. Grimm, Timm Trepannier, and Andrew something or other (we call him tweaker for fun) ^_^ They got down there ok, even though a guardrail came out and bit the PT Cruiser that they were driving….

Then of course Ry makes his way in, soon to be followed by Mike Girard, I guess when you have an event like this close to HQ you get to have the “big guys” come in and check it out. Always good talking to Ry, should have taken the time to meet Mr. Girard, next time for sure.

Player’s meeting:

The normal stuff, all the info you’ll ever need. About 2/3 of the way through Victor pulled a “SQUIRRELL!” (Pixar movie UP! For reference, the talking dog, remember?) We had joked that he should and then he did, it was perfect. At the end he asked if there were any questions… sorry, I had to; the guys had talked about it all week, so…. “Yeah, hey Victor, what’s a Nubian?” High fives all around…… ^_^

The constructed rounds……

I was the lone Warden Stormclaw player at the event. I thought I’d try to sneak something in that folks might not be ready for. For those that know me I have a certain goal in events of this size. Half or better. That’s what I look for, so with 36 players the goal was 18^th or better…..

The Realm Open chicken story, or we’re in your Realms taking ur lootz!

Rene ended up playing in the open. He just couldn’t get the pts needed, of course missing 2 of the RQs’ didn’t help. So there he is with the other 7 folks that decided to play in the open and he cracks his packs…. We were in the 2^nd round I think at this point and all of a sudden I here Rene yell through the ballroom “Hey guys! Look at this!” All heads turn his way, he then gets up on a chair and clucks like a chicken for 5-6 seconds! He pulled a chicken from his pool and was showing it off! Nice!!!!!

Now back to our regular programming

I ended the constructed rounds at 0-3, ouch! I played against some nice folks, but between my deck no t giving me ANYTHING that I needed and then round 2 being on full out tilt (6 play mistakes at least) it was not pretty. The food break sounded like a great idea when Victor announced it. I really needed to clear my head; I was also looking to revamp my goal, now I just wanted a top 32 pin! ^_^

The too sexy playmat story

Ok, I mentioned Danis’ playmat earlier, what I didn’t mention was that she had also put 2 female characters on the mat, both topless. So after round 2 Ry comes up to me and politely asks that no pics of the mat get posted to the UDE site or the twitter feed. Well that sux! I understand it though, UDE is a “family friendly” company, so I don’t blame Ry or Mike Girard for the request, but because of it I may have a hard time getting the vid from Paul E. as well…… Ry, tell him it’s cool for me to have it.. You know I won’t put it where you don’t want it…. SO the story goes that Dani is t sexy for her playmat……… ^_^

The draft…………

The draft was set up with 4 tables of 8 and 2 of 6. I of course was at the last table. I was in good company however, a few of the other TW crew were at the “kids table” as well, and we were joined by a glum Tim Rivera for good measure. (To Tim’s credit he didn’t act any different being at the bottom with us, always cordial, but I’m sure he wasn’t happy about how things had worked out for him.)

The draft didn’t work out a whole lot better for me, I went 2-1, but the round 2 win was due to my opponent dropping from the event. The first win was against Dani, but upon looking back later that night I really shouldn’t have won that. Being unfamiliar with the “on you turn” part of Mogor’s anointing club I used it on her turn and ended up winning (neither of us caught it then) the first game. She won the second and then I won the 3^rd at time by one pt of damage. We talked about it later and she promised not to kill me for it, I still felt bad though.

So, the day ends and I’m at 2-4, 30^th place of the day! I got my pin, thank god… I couldn’t set the goal much lower… ^_^ the full line up for us is as follows:

So, the top 8 have been chosen and we’re beat. Time for food and sleep. I see Big Dog and Tim Rivera playing a game, I think it was part of their cake draft, but I wasn’t sure. So I go over to say “see you later.” I shake Kevin’s hand and go to shake Tim’s, sounds easy right? Nope. As I’m doing this, the eventual number 2 man for the main event, Robert Swarowski kind of leaps up to shake my hand apparently, in doing so he knocks over a fairly full cup of water, all over the cards Tim and Kevin were playing with…. Funny stuff Robert, nice to meet you. ^_^

BED/SLEEP

Sunday

So the main events are done and none of us made the top 8, but we did what we do best… have fun and try to spread it around!

Tuna and Mark took a shot at getting into the Mini’s RC as there were only 7 folks Q’d and there were good prizes, no minis though, so after playing in the Q they would have to use a team they could make from the sealed stuff…. Well, Mark got in but Tuna didn’t, so Mark was busy in the RC for that while the rest of us played in a draft Victor set up.

The draft was mostly TW and Phx players, Niles from Vegas and Okura joined us in a 12 man side draft. Looks like I was still doing poorly though…. Not a win in the three rounds… SCRUB WEEKEND! ^_^

We waited around until Corey won and to see where Mark ended in the Mini’s, he got 9^th. Sorry dude. Then as it was 3:45 or so we had to scoot. Say our goodbyes to everyone and march out to the cars.

Halfway home in Yuma we stopped for gas and then some food at a Carl’s Jr. After we eat, the guys need a smoke and I look over at the gas station and see the Phx crew! I of course warn them loudly to “watch for those pesky guard rails” and we all throw some good natured obscene gestures to one another. The next part is classic, of course they head our way, of course I come up to the car in my best skinny nerd impression of a gangster, hat sideways, talking smack… at this point Big Dog says the hell with it and jumps out. To anyone in the Carl’s Jr. it must have looked like a rumble starting up as the car then emptied and then the TW crew joined me up front. I wish we had that on tape! So, we all shoot some more bull in the parking lot while the smokers smoke and then decide it’s time to go….. Homeward bound, bye Phx, see you guys soon I’m sure.

We got home safe but tired around 1:30am, oh good, I go to work in 5 hours! ^_^ Monday was NOT fun.

So there you have it. We had a great time and would do it again, oh wait, we will in 6 or so months as Victor wants to get something set up….. ROAD TRIP!!!!!!! ^_^

So at Winterspring, we seemed a bit smaller than last realm championship as far as attendance goes. I wasn't sure if that was due to location, timing, or something else.

For the TCG RC there were 23, for the TCG open there were 4, for minis it was 11.

Ashenvale Realm Championships 2009 Sacramento: Modicai goes to Champs

So this report will be much like my DMF: SF report, mostly pictures.
My camera phone and camera skills to go with it are fail once more but I think all and all I got a little better then DMF: SF

Team Discount, our team out of Sacramento obviously made a big showing.
Most of us play out of A-1 Comics in Roseville 20 minutes north of sac.
Thank you all for coming out to our home town, I hope you liked your time in Sacramento even though it suffered from DMF: SF syndrome (not being held anywhere near the actual city).

People need to stop sleeping and post who is top 8 in each realm. I would like to know especially Winterspring and Feralas. My old realm and my new one that I didn't bother trying to Q for. Next season though if the tournament is in a decent spot.

Round 1.

Simon De Grieve VS Aat Niehot.

Pagatha Soulbinder VS Nicholas Merick

Aat rolls a 6 with 2 dices and Simon rolls 8 so he will begin the first game.

He starts off with Swift Discipline and completes it immediately to draw a card and give Aat a token. Aat attacks with his Boar token to put Simon on 1 damage after which he sets an Eye of the Storm and ends his turn. Simon sets an Auchindoun Spirit Towers and ends his turn. Aat sets Corki’s Ransom and Gromble The Apt hits the field. He finds treasure and discards corki’s ransom. The Boar token attacks to put Simon on 2 and he ends his turn. Simon plays Backlash end of turn but Aat fizzles it. Simon sets A Question of Gluttony and plays Drain Will. Aat discards another Fizzle and Simon completes Question of Gluttony for 1 before he ends his turn. Auchindoun Spirit Towers is on 3 counters now. Aat sets Wanted: Hogger and the Boar token and Gromble attack Pagatha to put her on 4. Auchindoun Spirit Towers is spell surpressed and Aat plays Adam Eternum before he ends his turn. Simon sets Forces of Jaedenar and plays Engulfing Blaze and Aat removes an honor counter from his Eye of the Storm to save his Adam. Simon completes Forces of Jaedenar and ends his turn. Simon is on 7 and Aat is on 3.

Adam comes back in Aat’s turn and Consul Rhys hits the field. Aat sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Simon sets Swift Discipline and plays Banish to the Nether on Spell Surpression before he ends his turn. Adam and Consul attack to put Pagatha at 15 and Aat lays The Ring of Blood: Blue Brothers and Simon gets 2 tokens. Aat completes Wanted: Hogger and Simon responds with Steal Essence on Consul rhys to heal 2 from his Hero. Aat flips Merrick to clear Simon’s tokens and draw 2 off the Hogger. After this he ends his turn. Simon sets A Question of Gluttony and completes Swift Discipline to let him put Aat’s Eye of the Storm facedown with his Auchindoun Spirit Towers. Aat removes He-Man in response to this and Simon completes his Question of Gluttony for 1, he continues with Eye of Killrog, seeing a hand of Myriam Starcaller, Instructor Girallo and Blast Wave. Myriam is discarded and it’s Aat’s Turn.

He plays his Instructor Giralo and Consul Rhys and the Boar token attack Pagatha to 18 after which he ends his turn.

Simon sets a facedown resource and plays another Steal Essence on Consul Rhys to kill it. He continues with Banish to the Nether on Adam but Aat pays 2 to flip him to the other side of the universe for a turn. Simon ends his turn and Aat completes his Ring of Blood Quest to draw 2 cards. He sets Wanted:Hogger and plays Blast Wave to draw another 2 cards. Girallo and the Boar token bring Pagatha to 21 and it’s Simons turn.

He sets a facedown resource and plays Vengeful Gladiator’s Felshroud, after which he ends his turn. Aat sets Eye of the Storm and plays Spell Surpression on the Felshroud. Adam attacks and Simon prevents the damage with his armor. The Boar token and Girallo attack Pagatha to 24 and Aat plays Belt of Blasting before he ends his turn.

Simon plays Hesriana and targets Adam Eternum but He-Man is removed once more. After this Simon ends his turn. Aat attacks with Giralo and the Boar token and Simon scoops.

Game 2.

Both Players mulligan and Simon will begin the 2^nd game.

He begins with Forces of Jaedenar and Tirisfal Wand of Ascendancy. Aat sets Eye of the Storm and ends his turn. Simon sets a facedown resource and passes back to Aat who sets The Defias Brotherhood and passes back again to Simon who just sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Aat sets Wanted: Hogger and plays Adam Eternum but Simon plays Crush Soul to interrupt it. Putting 5 damage on Pagatha in the process. He follows it up with completing Forces of Jaedenar and on his turn he sets Auchindoun Spirit Towers and plays Detvhir the Malignant. He removes Crush Soul from his graveyard to strike Aat for free with his wand and ends his turn.

Aat sets a second Defias Brotherhood and thinks for a while before he decides to just end his turn. Simon sets a facedown resource and Detvhir attacks to put the damage totals on both hero’s at 5. Smelling the interrupt he just ends his turn and Aat sets a facedown resource and plays Weldon Barov but Simon uses Pagatha’s flip power to interrupt Weldon. Aat ends his turn and Detvhir attacks Merrick to 9. Simon ends his turn and Aat plays Myriam Starcaller after which he sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. In the end of turn Simon plays Steal Essence on Merrick but Aat fizzles it. With the path now interrupt-clear Simon plays Backlash and on his turn Pagatha attacks Myriam but Aat taps his Eye of the Storm to exhaust everything on Simon’s field. It was just a bluff as Simon simply plays terok’s Shadowstaff to take control of Myriam. After this he sets a resource and ends his turn. Aat is in trouble now and starts of with Blast Wave, EA style, and Detvhir soaks up Myriam’s damage. Aat continues with The Taste of Arcana to kill Detvhir and completes Wanted: Hogger before he plays another Blast Wave. In the end of turn Simon taps his Backlash to draw a card and plays Vengeful Gladiator’s Felshroud on his turn. He deals 5 damage to Nicholas Merrick with Myriam and ends his turn. Merrick is on 14 now and Pagatha is at 9.

Aat plays his 3d Blast Wave to kill Myriam and Simon prevents the damage on his hero with his felshroud. Scrapper Ironbane hits the field and Aat sets a facedown resource before he ends his turn and destroy the Felshroud with Scrapper.

Simon exhausts his Auchindoun Spirit Towers to put Eye of the Storm facedown and sets a facedown resource. Pagatha attacks Scrapper with the Wand and Simon follows it up with Engulfing Blaze to kill it. Both Hero’s are now at 17 and Simon plays Blood Knight Kyria before he ends his turn. Aat plays Gromble the Apt and finds treasure, discarding Spell Surpression. He sets The Ring Of Blood: The Blue Brothers and Simon takes 2 tokens. Merrick flips to kill the tokens and deal 2 to Kyria after which he completes his Ring of Blood and ends his turn.

Simon sets a facedown resource and plays a second Felshroud with his 3d in hand. Pagatha attacks grumble, striking for free with the wand and he taps Backlash to draw a card. He plays a removed Steal Essence on Gromble but Aat fizzles it. Simon ends his turn and Gromble attacks Kyria but simon taps his Felshroud to bounce it to Aat’s hand. He simply plays Gromble again and does Find Treasure, discarding Girallo. Seeing a flurry of Steal Essence’s the next turn he scoops up his cards.

Game 3

Both players mulligan again and Aat starts of with Eye of the Storm and ends his turn. Simon sets Auchindoun Spirit Towers and also ends his turn. Aat lays Wanted: Hooger and passes, Simon simply sets a Forces of Jaedenar and passes back to Aat. He sets The Defias Brotherhood and plays elder Achilia. In the end of turn Simon plays Backlash but Aat has the fizzle to interrupt it. On his turn Simon sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Aat plays Consul Rhys and Simon interrupts it with Crush Soul, Achilia attacks and Pagatha is at 5. Simon completes Forces of Jaedenar and on his turn he exhausts his Auchindoun to put Eye of the Storm facedown. He continues with Drain Will and Aat discards Spell Surpression after this he sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Aat completes Wanted: Hogger and plays Blast Wave, drawing 2 cards from the Hogger and dealing 3 to Pagatha, courtesy of Elder Achilia. He plays Consul Rhys but Simon has a second Crush Soul to interrupt it. Achilia attacks Pagatha to 12 and Aat sets a facedown resource before he ends his turn. Simon plays Voidfire Wand and attacks Nicholas Merrick. He sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Aat plays Belt of Blasting and Achilia attacks.

Simon sets Swift Discipline and plays Banish to the Nether on Belt of Blasting after which he ends his turn. Achilia attacks Pagatha to 13 and Simon strikes back on her with Voidfire Wand. Myriam Starcaller hits the field and Aat sets a Eye of the Storm before he ends his turn but Simon plays Steal Essence on Achilia to kill it.

On his turn he uses his Auchindoun to put Eye of the Storm facedown and plays Engulfing Blaze after completing Swift Discipline. He kills Myriam with Voidfire wand and Pagatha is on 17 damage and Nicholas Merrick is on 3. After this he sets a facedown resource and ends his turn. Aat passes his turn with 1 card in hand and Simon plays Eye of Kilrog to remove Eye of the Storm from his hand and put him in a Voidfire Lock. Aat wants to continue playing to try to kill Simon in time but after hearing from the judge there are 8 minutes left on the clock he scoops.

Simon de Grieve wins the first round.

Round One: Pat Eshghy and Kim Caton: Black Ice v. Black Ice

The players started the game with some friendly chit-chat and a comment on how they’ve now been paired first round into a mirror match. Kim won the die roll and elected to go first. Kim kept, Pat mulliganed.

Kim opened with a quest and a pass, with Pat responding in turn. Same quest, [The Defias Brotherhood]. Kim laid another resource and passed, then Taste of Arcana’d Eshghy’s turn two Instructor Giralo. Kim then was free to play a Water Elemental on turn three with Eshghy’s resources exhausted. Eshghy made a resource and passed, presumably to threaten a Taste or Fracture for a theoretical Myriam. Kim didn’t take the bait, instead making her own Giralo and rushing in for 3 before playing a Glous and readying her Elemental on his turn. Eshghy flipped on the Water Elemental, and then played The More, The Scarier to wipe Kim’s board to try and get back into this. Kim landed the dreaded Myriam on turn five, leaving one open to threaten further counter magic. With no board, Eshghy was sure to take 5, but he was far ahead in the card advantage race with 6 cards to his opponents one. Kim had two rather unhelpful The Defias Brotherhood’s. Eshghy played a Weldon Barov and passed, Kim played a resource and left 5 open. Weldon attempted to curb stomp the Myriam, but was stopped by a frostbolt from Black Ice. Eshghy then played a Myriam and fought a counter war, which he won. At end of turn, Myriam shot for five. Kim again drew and passed, with Myriam immediately receiving her curb stomping from Weldon. Eshghy played a Dimzer which was quickly
Nether Fracture’d. Eshghy brought the beats and quickly finished off his cardless opponent.

Kim chose to play second. Eshghy and Kim both mulliganed their openers, with a look of disgust coming from Kim. Eshghy played a quest and passed, Kim missed a quest and passed. Eshghy resolved a Gromble the Apt on his turn 2. Kim played another face down resource and also somehow resolved a Gromble the Apt. Eshghy then played out the absolutely insane turn three Myriam, since he was fairly sure she didn’t have a Taste of Arcana. Kim mirrored the play of the now tapped out Eshghy. Eshghy quickly one upped her with the Instructor Giralo. He then attacked Gromble and Myriam into the opposing Myriam. He ended the turn by playing a Marksman Glous. On Kim’s turn, an attack by Gromble was thwarted by a flip from Eshghy’s Black Ice. Kim then resolved a Water Elemental. Myriam shot Kim at the end of the turn. Eshghy went into the tank. When he came out, he exhausted his Myriam to deal 5, and then played The More, The Scarier to attempt 2 damage to Kim’s board. Kim had the first counterspell of the game in Fizzle. Eshghy then attacked with the team to put her up to 16. On Kim’s turn, his Myriam shot for another 5 before getting Water Elementaled. Kim then played an Instructor Giralo, threatening to lock the board down with Kim on four health. Water Elemental exhausted again on Eshghy’s turn, destroying Glous and knocking Giralo up to 2 damage. Eshghy attempted a Weldon which was quickly Fracture’d. Kim was making a pretty solid comeback, with an extremely dominant board position and a 0-card hand for Eshghy. Kim played out a Wub’s Cursed Hexblade, explaining her choice to go second. Eshghy conceded on his turn.

Eshghy elected to go second. Kim opened the game with her first completable quest, A Question of Gluttony. Eshghy played a Tabards and passed. Kim played a Gromble who quickly got thrown in the graveyard without doing his job due to a timely Taste of Arcana. Eshghy played a Wub’s Cursed Hexblade onto an empty tapped out board on turn 2, threatening to laugh at a theoretical Water Elemental. Kim the played out a Gromble and a resource. Eshghy made a third resource and thought for a little while before playing an encountered Water Elemental. Kim played a Wub’s and used it to destroy the Water Elemental. Eshghy then continued his parade of retarded amazing cards by playing out a Myriam. Kim completed some quests with a dismayed look, trying desperately to get out of the Myriam + Wub’s soft-lock. Eshghy simply made a resource and passed. Kim played a Weldon and then attempted to pass. At end of turn, Eshghy took Weldon with Wub’s and then shot with Myriam. Eshghy made a resource and passed, content to watch his Myriam pew pew. Kim continued digging for an answer, finding one in a Water Elemental that successfully resolved. Eshghy completed Defias and Question, filling back up to 7 cards and then drawing for his turn. An attack from Weldon on the hero elicited a flip from Kim. Kim conceded on her turn after some Myriam shots.

Even thoe we had only 11 players it was a success as we had 2 brand new players to OP and half the players were new faces to me. Had some different people travel out to get in on some wowtcg fun. The event had no problems and the players made lots of judge calls so I had plenty to do. We even played a short game of HE-Man trivia. =p

My Last Chance Qualifier... So to speak.

I came into this Qualifier at All Things Fun knowing that i didnt need to qualify for realms because im judging, but i wanted to qualify and keep my record of qualifying for every RC going. I had a light season and needed at least 2nd to qualify. I chose Cape's Orgrimmar deck with a slight side deck change. There were 11 people at the tournament including some new players.

Round 1 Vs. Brian Klein( Orgrimmar )

Awesome a mirror match. I lost the coin flip and on to round 2. I did drop Saurfang who got killed by a flip.

At this point i knew i was in for a rough day and needed to win out to have a shot.

Round 2 Vs. ?? Clair ( Zorin the Thunderhead )

Sorry i cant remember your first name. Game 1 He starts with Cracklehands and i kill them off. Myriams were dropped then killed and Kazamon just rolls through him both games.

Round 3 Vs. William Patterson ( Eriun Moonglow )

Boomkin?!? It surprised me to see this pop up. Game 1 was dominated by weldon and Heman, I also made the mistake of playing Finishing Shout on my turn as opposed to at the end of his, which allowed him to TNO it and keep weldon. I just drop dudes and and overwhelm him in games 2 and 3,

Round 4 Vs. Cliff Clark ( Frost Mage )

His hero was fizzlefreeze but he was a new player and didnt have a traditional Blackice. At 1 point he drops Regalia and Frost Novas 2 Kazamons off the board. :( I was able to overcome that beat and just dropped dudes FTW. He did live for 5 turns with 3 health.

After looking at the pairings from round 4 i knew that at 3-1 i was guaranteed a spot in top 4, tiebreakers determined i was 4th.

Top 4 Vs. Edwin ??? ( Kilzin )

This was it, Both me and edwin were playing to avoid the LCQ. Since i couldnt make the LCQ this was my last chance to qualify and keep my streak alive. Ed needed second to avoid the LCQ friday night in PA.

He won the die roll and smashed his way through game 1. I started game 2 and smashed my way through game 2, which he lost because he sided out his only answers to Kazamon. He didnt see Kazamon in game 1 and didnt know i had him( He hadnt played since Charlotte)It all came down to game 3 winner gets Qed, loser goes to the LCQ. He mulligans his hand and mulliganed into a stinker. I was able to jump out early and pound my way to the victory.

Our top story, the last Season 4 Realms qualifier in Tucson Arizona, on Sun the 8^th of Nov. Did the local crew get their points? Did outsiders from Phx come in and steal the deal? Let’s find out!!!!

I’d like to start this report by telling Timm to go to hell. No, really. I blame him for the event starting late. Late? How could that happen, didn’t Timm make a crack about a late start for the last one? Yes, yes he did, although the registration started late last time, not the event.

All of the players and the TO/judge were at the store on time and ready to go, but Amazing D’s wasn’t open. An hour and a half later at noon, the stores regular opening time, Dusty shows up to open the store…. Now, I’m not bashing Dusty, he’s been sick for a week and for some reason I didn’t have his cell number like I do now, plus the look on his face when he realized what was going on was priceless, as he was unlocking the front door he was leaning down to look at our schedule… he mouths some obscenities at himself and we get things going. Don’t worry Dusty, everything worked out and now I have your electronic leash contact…..

SO, Timm, as I stated before, I blame you now for Dusty catching whatever he caught AND the event being late because of your previous comments. Does that make sense? Of course it doesn’t, but no one ever claimed we were rational down here. So there. ^_^

After a rushed set up and registration we got things started only 15 minutes after the scheduled start time.

I had decided to try something different this week; I’ve always had a soft spot for Red Pally. Add to that I really wanted to cram a lot of crafted cards into a deck and see what it could do, so I came up with my deck for this event, played it a little last week and thought why not? I can always get the last 2 pts at the LCQ if things go bad….. Truer words were never spoken…

Rd 1 vs. Josh

Hmmm, Demon rush right out of the gate, great. Game 1 I whittle away his early guys and gain a good bit of board presence, a few turns later the reaper comes out and it’s lights out for the pit lord. Games 2 and 3, not so much. Game 2 he had an answer for everything, to include an arcing smash when I had a set of tanks, cloak of darkness and a blackout truncheon on the board. Game 3 was more of the same, for some reason I thought I was on the way to pulling it out, then he beat me like a redheaded step child….. Good games man.

Rd 2 vs. the BYE

I OWNED this one!!! For some reason I don’t remember anything but crushing victory over this guy. He was coming off of a hard loss to Dani round 1, so maybe his head wasn’t really there. Better luck next time man. (I heard he didn’t win a single game all day, although it was close vs. East in round 4)

Rd 3 vs. Dani

Another rush, luckily I had better hands to deal with it. We only went the 2 games but there was a little sweating on both sides as the advantage seemed to flip flop from turn to turn. In the end the Pally beat the Shaman in to the ground and I walked away the victor. Good games Dani, the force is growing strong in you.

Rd 4 vs. Brandon Draper

Blue shammy totems, interesting. Or not really. Even though the Bros Grimm have been in the area a lot lately Brandon and I realized that we haven’t played since the fall of last year at the Champs in Phx. I won that meeting, so he was itching for a rematch. Well, game one took a bit of time, he would start to get part of his totem “lock” out (grounding, earthbind, rysa earthcaller) to keep me from crushing Myriam and I would break part of it, only to have him rebuild it. About the time I was just about to say the hell with it he put out the second myriam…. Game 2?

Game 2 wasn’t any fun at all. I think most of his “lock” came out and I just couldn’t find any answers. A bad match up and a frustrating game for me. A pleasure to play you Brandon, but I’m hoping for a better result if I run into you at Champs…..

Neat play of the day: Quarterfinals match between Brett (Mother Misery) and Kevin (T. Lionar, lots of counters into Illidan). Kevin's got lots of dead cards (Pummels, Deafening Shouts, Sudden Deaths), and they make up most of his hand. He's got double Blood Knight Kyria and double Whispering Blade of Slaying on the board, and 3 resources ready, but he's taken a lot of damage (around 20 or so iirc). Brett tries to play a weapon. Kevin Absolute Poises the weapon, but in response, Pummels his own Absolute Poise, and then Pummels his own Pummel. The 'Poise goes through to counter the weapon, and Kevin heals 24 from his hero!
