    Drafting Equipment

So, for those of you, we, or us, who've drafted, either as practice or competitively, I'm left wondering if draft is one of the viable formats of multiple equipment on a given character in most cases.

Lets say you've got Magdeline Prideheart and a Nightmare Blade, Blessing of Kings, Crusader Aura, Flash of Light, and Signet of Eternal Life.  Sounds like one hell of a 7 Honor pally, what?

How about Daspien with Felsteel Boomstick, Mind-numbing Poison, Sinister Strike, and Blind?

Who doesnt take Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros as a first pick?

In a limited environment, if you get a good character or great picks of equipment, how do you weigh the costs/benefits?

    Cheers!

    Re: Drafting Equipment

Well for Core/Spoils you really should have two of your characters locked in by the end of the Core pack, just because the Spoils characters tend to be... crappy, overall. There's a few nutso ones and a whole lot of mediocre ones. You do want one slot open to have options for the last pack though.

Equipment is high pick material, just because it probably won't wheel back to you. Equips can be used by more characters than most ABCs, and they don't cost you a card from a limited number of picks. Signet for instance won't ever wheel as any person who has nothing else to pick in his pack will pick it and play it on some character or other, and *someone* in those three other guys has nothing else to pick in this pack, so unless there's two Magdeline in those packs you won't ever get both her and the Signet.

The only equipment I've seen that is low pick is the Rocket Helmet. I got that wheeled to me and picked it up as fodder for my Ona's Aspect of the Pack (assigned it but never revealed it...). The Boomstick often sucks too (that's a waste of a good 2 Honor), though it will still get picked up by anyone with Warrior or Rogue in their team once picks dry up.

I've never seen Bulwark *ever* being passed, much less wheel. Nor Sulfuras.

    Re: Drafting Equipment

Sulfuras is overrated. I would only play it on a character that doesnt suck, but thats attack does. Wilton Thorne, Graccus, Aleyah Dawnborn and Victoria Jaton fit this. On Characters with a decent attack, the four honor is too much for the Upgrade. And on a fragile charakter such as Mojoshaper Ojomon, the 4 honor are wasted too. Because he cant strike enough with his expensive weapon, before getting killed.

Bulwark and Signet are great, and would be firstpicks in double Spoils Draft. In Core/Spoils you should know if you need a bulwark or not (depends on the map too) and if you need something in the Booster more than a forest to go.

The Rest of the equipment is for special Warbands and for playing face-down.

    Re: Drafting Equipment

I can't think of any warband who couldn't use a Bulwark, particularly on the Worlds map where you basically need a pally or warrior to have a decent team. (You NEED the center.)

Sulfuras is the same. Wilton, Graccus, Aleyah and Victoria are commons, and they fit the center spot-taking tank role that's necessary on that map. If a Sulfuras shows up, somebody will need it. There's no way it's gonna wheel.

    Re: Drafting Equipment

Soulseeker has been overlooked to this point.  You have to make the tough choice of whether you want to reveal and add the 3 honor to your party, but in the actual draft it's going to vanish if you don't nab it.  Too many characters with big dice can use it.

My World's draft highlight was when I opened a pack with Daxin and picked the Soulseeker, only to have Daxin wheel.  One of the guys who didn't take him ended up having Daxin one-shot his Conqueror Aluna.

I wanted to give everyone a list of all the trustworthy people who traded with me on this site, but it exceeds maximum character length. To me, that's a hopeful sign.
