    WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.05

    Hello World,

An update to the comprehensive rules has been posted, you can download them here.

Your feedback is most welcome in this thread.

    Thanks to everyone who contributed!
    Ed.

--- Log of major changes between v1.04 and v1.05

105.2    Crit abilities are triggered abilities (704.2) associated with an attack or heal ability. They can be identified by “[Crit]:”, and trigger off a crit result being rolled for that ability.

301.2a    A buff/debuff is allied with the party of the character that played it as it's attached, but is otherwise independent from that character.

501.3c    Some effects let a player “immediately play” an action or instant. Doing so doesn’t affect his usual option to play one for the turn.

--- Log of major changes between v1.03 and v1.04

300.2 A character can't have an ABC with a non-matching text description, non-matching class icon, or slots in excess of that slot's maximum.

    302 Rules for equipment.

304.4 Totems can be damaged by triggered abilities that affect an "attacker" if that totem was attacking, and a "defender" if that totem was defending.

600.2 If "enemies can't attack X", they can't propose X as a defender, X can't become a proposed defender or defender, and their attacks can't be redirect to X.

601.1c If a crit ability creates an ongoing effect, it resolves and is applied immediately.

700.3 Abilites are either active, or inactive.

    702.3 Rules for channel abilities.

704.2d/3b Triggered abilities and ongoing effects from multiple equipment with the same name can't affect the same character at the same time.

--- Log of major changes between v1.02 and v1.03

    102.2 Simultaneous victory updated.

304.2 The cost of a pet is 0.

405.4 Range 4 LOS exception clarified.

709.6 Replacement effects and damage that would be dealt.

--- Log of major changes between v1.01 and v1.02

100.1a "Legendary" is not an ability.

301.2f Buffs/debuffs can be attached to a totem, but is removed immediately after the ability that attached it has finished resolving.

303.3 Totems can only be damaged by abilities that target them, or attacks that have been redirected to them.

404.5 An effect that switches two allies, simultaneously teleports each into the other's space.

405.2b Some abilities have no range. Unless otherwise specified, a character can only use such an ability on itself.

702.1 An action is a non-instant payment ability with a printed tick cost of 1 or greater.

704.2 Triggered abilities apply whether or not its source is in play, unless it can trigger only if its source is in play.

704.2c/3b Triggered abilities and ongoing effects from multiple totems with the same name can't affect the same character at the same time.

705.3 Resolving abilities that launch another ability follows the applicable rules for playing abilities.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

Holy crap! The game just go so much easier that I'll actually start Demoing it to new players again!

Thanks for the new examples in v1.02.  I especially love how Intervene isn't named but the example talks about a Warrior trying to trade spaces with a totem through teleporting.

Thank you for identifying that totems don't have faction but pets do.

Thank you for definitively outlining that totems have names and do not stack.

Thank you for answers any and all questions about Irana being out of play or characters like her with ongoing secondary abilities.

Thank you for responding to all the questions ever about Serpent Sting with 702.1.

And last, thanks for the example in 301.2f about Mortal Strike, because that was going to be my only question about the rule.

    Wait, omg, there's a glossary. THERE'S A GLOSSARY!!! A   G L O S S A R Y! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! !!

    K. all y'all deserve raises. +1

    Cheers!

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

Why do you keep changing rules and then changing them back? Was there no playtesting going on at all for 1.01? For 1.02? How many rules changes are we going to suffer through until we have a good set of rules? Now I have to go learn all these new rules and forget about the old ones.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

cuz they don't put a huge link on the front page or make an announcement of some sort on the forum. I missed the last update by about a day as well. Something this big with the glossary and all should definitely be more conspicuous.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

I would like a request a change in the definition of triggered abilities to include words in which to look for. Sometime in the flavor of TCG CR703.1. The current CR for Minis states that some ongoing abilities are triggered but doesn't state how to identify it.

    TCG CR3.01:

703.1 A triggered power can be identified by the words “when” or “at.” It watches for its trigger event to happen, at which point it triggers. It triggers off every instance of its event, including multiple events happening simultaneously. It can trigger any time, even during intervals when no player has priority. Triggered powers create triggered effects (708).

    Minis CR1.02:

704.2 Some ongoing abilities are triggered. A triggered ability watches for its trigger event to happen, at which point it triggers. It triggers off every instance of its event, including multiple events happening simultaneously. Unless such an ability can trigger only if its source is in play, it triggers whether or not its source is in play. Unless otherwise specified, triggered abilities resolve immediately after they trigger.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

Just a query but 400.3a seems to be written too specifically for 'You Too Shall Serve'. Are all character control effects going to be similar (in that both characters tick up). If not then perhaps you can remove the last portion as it is already covered by the card itself.

    Minis CR1.02:

400.3a During that turn, any references to that character’s allies or enemies now refer to your character’s allies or enemies. In addition, you can turn that character’s Action Bar cards face up at any time, and play any of its abilities; and its former controller no longer can. Paying the tick costs of any of that character’s abilities ticks up not only its personal clock but also your character’s personal clock.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

On the definition of an attack by the CR is that an attack has to be a payment ability. As such, those attacks created by crit effects are not considered as attacks as it is not a payment ability.

Probably a change similar to the definition of target is needed.

    CR1.02:

600.1 An attack is a payment ability with an amount of physical or magic power. Nothing else is an attack

Attack (600.1): An attack is a payment ability with an amount of physical or magical power. Nothing else is an attack. An attack is either magical or physical; never both. Each attack also has a damage type. See Damage Type.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

    Section 702 already covers this.
    WoW Minis Comp Rules:
702.2    Payment abilities include attack abilities (those with magic or physical power) and heal abilities (those with heal power). All other payment abilities have an arrow (represented by >>> in these rules). The text before the arrow is the cost to play the ability, and the text after the arrow is what happens when you do.

Re: WoW Minis Comprehensive Rules v1.02

Thanks skey23, i missed that entry as i browsed through. So a crit such as Elendril is considered a ongoing triggered/payment ability. Seems cumbersome but it does explain how the new druid can heal if it crits off its normal attack and/or crit triggered melee attack while in Cat Form.
