Drums of War Preview: Location, Location, Location!

New preview article up, check it out:

The ally+Stormwind could make some sick acceleration decks. Halaa is nice, but it takes 4 turns to activate optimally. Still, I like it :P

Yeah, shame you have to post this, instead of the regular 'Discuss this article' button.

Anyway, looks like locations have a lot of potential.

    Cheers.

Do you have to make a problem  about every small thing, Manu? Ryno and the others are probably on the plane to Paris so don't have time for all that at the moment.

As for the cards,  they actually give locations a good reason to live. A potential of a 6 cost ally turn 3 is really nice! I'm not sure about Halaa though... Ok the card stays in play for a while, but, that's 4 turns of having more allies... not always as easy... If you can complete it once, you can be pretty safe on having more allies, maybe...

Re: Drums of War Preview: Location, Location, Location!

can't we all yell at manu somewhere else? in fact, no where else!

Is the 4 icon on Halaa just a reminder of the number you need or is it for something else? do we know yet? Halaa seems boring... by turn 5 you could have allies, and by turn 9 you could have more. but i would rather have lady vashj by then. maybe it would work with the barovs and gift of the wild/ finishingshout rush deck?

Stormwind is..... pay 1 less to play an ally? only once per turn. only with a human in play. not worth it? gryth looks cool for limited and might be good for consturcted if better abuses for locations can be found.

Re: Drums of War Preview: Location, Location, Location!

Of course you have to translate stormwind to say pay 1 less for your next ally (you have to tap the location resource for its effect).

Ryan and Mike are at Blizzcon, as are most of the other staff I guess. I'd expect most to fly out Monday or Tuesday.

Thank you Mr Moneybags.  As for the locations they look pretty good.  They are all good in limited (Halaa is all right as you can just stack you deck with weenies).  That Gryphon rider seems good for limited as well.  An excellent article, but I think that the writer forgot about undercity.......

The undercity wasn't forgotten, just wasn't mentioned by name. 'city built under the ruins of Londeron'. I think Stormwind could work well with Tarwella Gladespring. Also, if we get a human assassination hero, vigor

aye, Halaa looks boring since it's too slow. maybe if it was 3 capture tokens, it'd be a bit more bearable. also maybe the "health" on the location means that if it is dealt damage, you would lose your capture tokens? that would make it even harder to pull off, although on the flip side, it is another target for your opponent that can be used as a decoy...

capital cities seem to have racial-like effects, and yes, I also agree that Stormwind seems a bit meh since it's essentially "pay less for allies by 1" but having considerably strict requirements (Human hero and a human ally on the field). and it's even worse since most human allies have meh effects as well, otherwise I'd actually consider building a human rush deck (WTB more 3 ATK 2 Health for 2 human allies w/ decent effects plz!!).

I do wonder how Ironforge & Orgrimmar will turn out, since the Gnomes & Trolls don't exactly have capitals and need to share it w/ the Dwarves & Orcs. at least Trolls have Echo Isles, Zul'Farrak, Zul'Gurub & even Zul'Aman while Gnomes have... Toshley's Station? and I hope Undercity & Darnassus gets something other than Cannibalize & Shadowmeld, cause otherwise it'd be meh as well (maybe somehow replicate Will of the Forsaken into the tcg and uhhh... Elusive while ready for Darnassus?)

Re: Drums of War Preview: Location, Location, Location!

Trolls have Sen'jin Village, where we go to buy our bunny dinos.

Stormwind sounds nuts. Turn 3 Seraph, turn 4 Myriam + Weeble. Keeping Human allies in play might be a bit difficult though.

Re: Drums of War Preview: Location, Location, Location!

Personally, I think Stormwind is very good. It allows you to skip ahead in the resource progression. You can play a cost 3 ally on turn 2 if you have a cost 1 human to start. And if you pull out the Flight Master, you can skip even farther ahead.

Halaa, on the other hand, isn't very good at all. To get the effect to trigger, you need to run rush. But if you're running rush, you don't want to wait around four turns for the effect.

I like the Flight Master. He can be a 2/2 on turn 1, and even if you don't have an activated power on your location, you can activate him to get back a resource. The big drawback is the fact that he's unique.
