Mayo: The reason why Velen Wall is bad on that map is precisely that the flag is irrelevant, mostly. Wall can't kill the opposition fast enough, and it can't score location VPs because of the scenario (and believe me, getting a bunch of pallys to cap a flag ain't easy). You need something with DPS. Vashj did good, so did Zoo and Jaina/Elanna. Zomm combines DPS (with enough Expose Armor) and a possibility at capping, which is why IMO it was the best team for the map (I was missing a Zomm and the 2x Zomm + Ona version was vastly inferior). The Shredder team is cool and goes for the flag, but I think the team that can do both DPS and flag cap is the clear winner...
I think Jez/Jaina/Savin would have been good too if I had had more practice with it. It has good game against Vashj (especially unprepared Vashj players who don't run Polymorph, or who walk into BoP) and hunters, can keep up with Zomm on the DPS front, and IMO has a very favorable matchup against Amalars. My biggest fear is the Morts matchup. And I guess the Shredder matchup would have sucked too (Jaina = irrelevant).
Now you could say that Velen is so defensive that your opponent won't be able to kill through its defenses either, but the problem with that scenario is that YOU are the higher Honor band in 99% of the matches. YOU need to be killing THEM.
I'm not sure how you did, but if you had a good run with Velen (by which I mean 3-1 or better) it must have been because you were in the lower brackets after the draft portion. Velen is still good enough to give a fit to inferior players, but it couldn't stand against anything in the higher tier *except* maybe Zomm. Maybe.
