That's a good question.  Since the dirty secret owned everything else in this format, I'm assuming he won the world championship right?

I believe the secret was Velen Wall, unless I misinterpreted his banter when I faced him in the DMF.

I don't want to affirm it with 100% certainty since saying someone thought Velen Wall was good on this map could be interpreted as slander.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

If the boasting of going 14-0 at new zealand nats was correct then according to this site the op is Cayle McCreath

    http://gametownsite.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=538

According to the worlds standing records he went 2-2 in the draft, and then 2-2 in the constructed to fall solidly in the middle of the rankings.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

If this is Cayle McCreath - here - then I believe I played him first in the DMF on Saturday.

He had quite a lot of confusion over my minis, couldn't really keep them straight or how many VPs he had.

He was a heck of a nice guy, though. However, I'd like to point out that his Elizabetha rolled 20/21 hits during our game. I was set for the win, and all he could do was try to kill a 5health, 1resist unit.

After getting Elizabetha on the hill, he roll 5/7, rerolled for 6, and it was all over.

He was very nice and polite throughout the match and I believe he stated here in this thread awhile back that he was just trying to cause a stir. I talked to him a bit on Thursday too. He was quite disappointed about the drinking age restrictions here :)

I also found him to be very friendly.

Like all of us, I'm sure he will work on his rough edges when it comes to internet forums. :-D

I've got his Varimathras' doom. Poor Varimathras, trying to beat mr. insane-Ta'zo without doom. :)

And if you want the doom back, and shipping isn't insanely expensive, I'll mail it back to you. I certainly don't need it.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

allright guys, im finally on to give some of the answers you require. work since ive got home and moving has kept me pretty busy.

1st of all, yes i am cayle mccreath? its not that hard to figure out =)

Mrw 01- i was extremely confused by your figures, they look really similar and what made it worse was the first attack of the game you even got them wrong, you protected with the wrong guy =s so that was screwed from the outset. but your a good player and it was a fun match..i fluked the win, but you deserved it..

BB- i would really watch before putting down valen wall, it was extremely high honour for the map but it did pay off.. my placing doesnt do me justice, infact a few iffy calls and really really bad dice rolls dealt that a blow, steelwing (scott watson)?? if thats you you will remember the match we had, every dice roll shattered.. roll 3 get 1, roll 6 get 2, roll 7 get 2.. every time.. infact it was that bad it killed the match.

Corey Than- doom with that vari would have been good.. and as the story of the day goes, that tazo.. couldnt die.. you were witness to my shocking rolls, but still a close game, you deserved your top 8 finish, still gutted that i couldnt vs that zoo in the finals tho.

as for the selection of the team, if i got to do it all over, i wouldnt change it. i think alot of people dismissed it because of the honor when really they were focusing on the flag way to much.

wait till you see my party for realms =)

Wait Vellen Wall was your secret!?  That sucked!  I wanted an actual secret!  If you had come up with trip Zomm!.....

Re: i have a dirty secret..

Mayo: The reason why Velen Wall is bad on that map is precisely that the flag is irrelevant, mostly. Wall can't kill the opposition fast enough, and it can't score location VPs because of the scenario (and believe me, getting a bunch of pallys to cap a flag ain't easy). You need something with DPS. Vashj did good, so did Zoo and Jaina/Elanna. Zomm combines DPS (with enough Expose Armor) and a possibility at capping, which is why IMO it was the best team for the map (I was missing a Zomm and the 2x Zomm + Ona version was vastly inferior). The Shredder team is cool and goes for the flag, but I think the team that can do both DPS and flag cap is the clear winner...

I think Jez/Jaina/Savin would have been good too if I had had more practice with it. It has good game against Vashj (especially unprepared Vashj players who don't run Polymorph, or who walk into BoP) and hunters, can keep up with Zomm on the DPS front, and IMO has a very favorable matchup against Amalars. My biggest fear is the Morts matchup. And I guess the Shredder matchup would have sucked too (Jaina = irrelevant).

Now you could say that Velen is so defensive that your opponent won't be able to kill through its defenses either, but the problem with that scenario is that YOU are the higher Honor band in 99% of the matches. YOU need to be killing THEM.

I'm not sure how you did, but if you had a good run with Velen (by which I mean 3-1 or better) it must have been because you were in the lower brackets after the draft portion. Velen is still good enough to give a fit to inferior players, but it couldn't stand against anything in the higher tier *except* maybe Zomm. Maybe.
