You know, after this weekend, I started looking for Mortimers on Ebay to see how much they were going for.  I couldn't find a one.

I have seen exactly one on ebay (ever) and it hasn't been bid on, because the seller has put a minimum bid of $75. Which is obviously more than any of the buyer's are willing to pay...

I would pay a hundred dollars to make Mortimer illegal for constructed play.  Or at the least make it so that not all the Mortimers can use the same teleport ability because it is way broken as is right now.  Mort A should not be able to use Mort B's Demonic circle.  As of now he is OP.

    DMF Indianapolis here I come.

Ye it's so OP that it didn't win anything still in last 2 DMF differently from Jaina .....

Re: Mortimer the Malign: how much will you pay for it?

I think more than that it has to do with the tournaments that make the vast majority of this game. You know the ones at your local hobby store and such. In that kind of situation Mort becomes a total house in a bad way. The most important being that he is so limited to get ahold of that anyone in a "Local" setting that has 3 is in a huge power position. The second being that he takes less skill to play then other Warlock builds because of his ability to use another cards ability. Certainly at the Pro level he requires a certain amount of skill play but in a broader local play scheme he is much easier to abuse.

I think it's also unfair to really put Jaina into the category of broken. She is a character that by herself has no really game altering ability. It's more to do with who you pair her with an how much more powerful they make her supporting cast. More importantly though is the player of such a setup. If you notice one person continues to pilot this setup at the tournament level through the top 8 field. I don't see anyone else doing this and it probably has a lot to do with that certain players ability to see the board and positioning better than most.

I expect Mort will fetch epic prices once people settle down and get more onto Ebay. It's sad but unless he is reprinted in the new set the local scene may get screwed from a person pluning down the cash for 3 of them.

Even BIG made top 8 .....
Still to me it looks more like ppl switching for finals to it while playing other parties to qualify.

So you basically trying to say that outside of that party a Mortimer is able to keep his "OPness"? Why should your "law" apply to Jaina and not to Mortimer? Imo it's even more dependant on the team than Jaina since it's based on portal sinergy while Jaina can ehnance everyone ....

If a local player plunks down cash for some Morts and continues to dominate, then there are two problems.  First, the guy is a jerk for continuing to play the ringer team.  Second, the other players didn't design some hate to bring that guy down.

I don;t know about you, but I really go into every BG with the intent of having fun, and I think our entire group does that as well.  It's not to say we play jank teams every week, but we use this time to try out new teams and to teach others how to play.

And let me say this again: yes, a few mort teams have made some top-8 appearances, but they were piloted by very skilled players and did not make it to the top.  Are they good?  Yes.  Are they tier 1?  Probably.  Are they going to break the game?  Absolutely not.

Look at Vashj.  Six weeks ago many people were clamoring about how broken she was, but the fact is the skill of the player has just as much to do with it and she can be beat.

And let's not forget the map.
The same party don't perform the same in a different map.

This is good and all but when the players want to switch over to dmf or try to qualify for nationals the "have fun attitude" can really hinder players that constantly play against weaker teams. I'm not saying that you need to bring Jaina out every week but you go tournaments to win and losing is never fun

You don't get it at all... Winning (DMF'S) doesn't matter when it comes to being OP.  Anyone can have bad dice rolls or an opposition have great ones during any game.  My point is, I dare you to try to name me one mini that when you make a trio of it, over half of the top 8's are that mini alone(Turin). None, period. End of story. This game thus far has over 120 minis to play, and when one mini by itself, when made into a trio, does as well as he is doing, then he is broken and OP.  There no point to argue this, but it will be anyway.  I haven't even mentioned the fact that he is not even available to everyone.  Where is the nerf bat, cause we need one here.

    Erk!

Mortimer is not broken.  Your example of half of the teams in the top 8 leaves out several key factors.  First and foremost, the number and caliber of players who ran it, and secondly the testing those who ran it put into the band vs the testing the opponents put into it.  Its a very gimicky band that if you aren't prepped for it can suprise you with its sudden changes in position, but that doesn't mean its over powered.  It means its not present in local metas to have been a factor in gauntlet testing.  Due to its rarity it had suprise factor, and players had to have enough forethought to know that it was going to be a possible band they could face or run.  The lock players simply capitalized on the fields lack of preparation.

Re: Mortimer the Malign: how much will you pay for it?

Honestly as i read these post i must remind myself that people see things from different points of view...... even still there are times that i find it almost impossible to keep from laughing at the direction posts take about certain things.

Can someone please enlighten me as to how exactly is the piece so OP that people need to complain about it????? All i really see is a standard warlock with a sub-par attack... average stats... with a good ability........ ok so how exactly is that OP???

Honestly the reason so many Moritmer's top 8'd is because people were not really ready to face him and his mobility. The people who had the foresight to actually test against it were the ones who did well... If you boil it down to basics... he really is not much different then say Triple Dizzy, or Triple Kiala... or any other triple warlock team.... they do well because they are great at tempo disruption..... which mortimer's ability does well being able to teleport to another spot on the map.

So a piece of advice to you... if you think he is so OP.... go get 3 of them... run him and see how well you do.... because hell... if he is that OP then everyone is running him and nothing really can beat him to easily.... oh... wait........ it can be beaten and has been................

Re: Mortimer the Malign: how much will you pay for it?

Subpar attack? Err, no. 3 ticks for 5 is pretty much a standard 'lock attack. It's slightly inferior to Daxin's because it's just Damage +1 without the heal factor, it's arguably better than Diz's except for the shorter range, it's *definitly* better than a 4 for 6 with an irrelevant crit from Kiala, which happens to be the same cost as Mortimer (you play Kiala for the 4 Resist, not her crap attack). If you're playing 'locks, you're already dedicated to playing subpar attacks anyway. You're supposed to make up for it with DOTs and kiting, which Mortimer excels at.

Maneuverability is key in this game, and Mortimer is basically the most maneuverable character in the game right now.
