    Re: Arizona Officially Forgotten.

No problem!  As a guy that started his playgroup from nothing (5 guys in a kitchen for 5 months, all playing with my decks, now we get 10-14 at the local store no matter what format and even free play weeks. These guys buy boxes of the stuff now too, at least one from the local store every set.) it's good to see others putting in the effort to do the same. The biggest "problem" per se that I have is that most of my folks are from the local Air Force base (myself included), so I lose players to orders, deployments and such. I have a few civvies that play and they are great, I just can't seem to get MORE of them..... sigh....  ^_^

    Re: Arizona Officially Forgotten.

Kinda funny how when the angry guy keeps putting up points, the topic changes. Here's one more piece that would like to make. Target, Walmart, and Game Stop sells mini's. Yet none of those place even have events. But I keep getting it slammed in my face that I need to support a local store just for the reason of play group. Not one person wants to admit that the point of checking revenue VS area/region would show the game's success. They can easily track where mini's are shipped even if bought online. And my reason wasn't just price alone. It was more because of convenience. And I keep seeing that if I don't have a play group then I can't play.... My brothers and myself are a play group. We invite our friends over, light up the Hooka, and drink beer till we can't even see the mini's. So basted on my play style name a store that will be down for us to play the fun way? I'm still going to be upset that card players can buy where ever and they get their events. And yeah if they have 10 boxxes of cards shipped every set then a $5 weekly tournie is no big deal. If that was an option I think it would be happening. But you have got to be kidding me thinking that the Tiger Card isn't worth a lot to an online player. The same point keeps being told to me support a store and get sanctioned events for bigger events. But I'm still under the belief that you have a Tiger Loot card on the line then you'll have enough people. Most all the card players only go to pre-release events and Tiger events. I went for the Tiger event - card game and placed 5th due to my druid couldn't do instant damage. So I lost 1 game to a mage and time being called. And YES I had full life and he flipped and did damage and he only had 8 health left at that moment. But for that turnie it was next one to do more damage once time was called... They guy looked at me and said he knew that was a crappy rule, and was deffantly going down. But the fact remains that the mini's are a bit more expensive than cards hands down. And at this time people are JUST NOT WILLING to invest in it like I could. So I can't keeps spending $26(2x boxes for drafts) when I have so many mini's... But new players won't even join the game unless they end up with something.... So please remember it's not $4 a pack like the card game. Most boosters are $12-15 depending on the local shop. But a case online is $130 and shipping makes it about $150 that's still less than $10 per booster. This game really rocks, but it's NOT CHEAP.... So give a guy a break when your expecting me to drive an hour. Then be throwing down almost $30 bucks. Then having an hour drive home.... Only to find out NO FRIGGEN TIGER EVENT.... (BAM BREAK POINT) I keep hearing what's fair, well I still don't think it's that fair. I still will have my own opionion. The last thing I will say is the last local store we were playing at the owner had this same complaint. Funny thing was he found out I play Alliance and totally started bashing on me. I took it for about an hour then I had enough and haven't been to his store since.... So to be fair to the store owners I can understand they need to pay bills... If you treat your customers like crap then they probably will get sick of it and stop showing up. Which is the case for one local shop I am going to leave nameless since this has already been a one sided topic so far.

Ok, first off, thanks to Twylite for the nice words.

Secondly, no matter what you were told, the Tucson Crew (aka Tucson WOW) never called anyone on Sat to say we would be late, they knew we were coming up, but thats as far as that goes. Add to that that we weren't late and knew that we wouldn't be, I'd break my own guys necks first! As Twylite said, the Cascade site had all the correct info, I should know, I bugged the everloving C**P out of them for 2 weeks to make sure it was there. I will agree that we are in good with the judges/folks there at Gamer's Inn, but I wouldn't ask them to hold anything for two hours for us, 15 minutes maybe, but 2 hours? That's how long the drive is in total from Tucson....

I feel for you as far as the OP stuff goes, but if it means that much to you, you need to organize things yourself (I know you said you are a judge, that's a good first move), build the playgroup, scream from the net, get a store to work with you, build it and they will come. That's how it works, not the other way around. WE have a fairly big group down here that plays the tcg, we get much bigger weekly numbers than any store in Phx, but we'll never get a big event. Why? Becuase we only sanction (report) one event per month. That's on us, and we're ok with that. If I sanctioned every event, aka making it more tooth and nail competetive, I'd lose half or more of my players and I refuse to do that. So, we get to travel for sneek peeks and RCQs (well, sometimes, stupid Sat tourneys!  ^_^) and get to see some folks we like, and that works for us.

The leg work is on the players man, Upper deck's job is to make the game and have big events where the players are, not throw a big event and hope... I wish you all of the luck in the world getting some stuff running up there for you, Tony is a good guy to have on your side for that, use him!

When did I ever say I was a Judge?

And it would be kind of hard to make events happen, since there are NO card shops outside of Pheonix. And the two I used to go to before it got too expensive to travel three goddamn hours each way are closed, or no longer host TCG/Minis events. For the ones that stopped hosting, I blame UDE and Cascade Games (even more so, as I assume Cascade games is the licensed company for our area to run events, and those guys are more incompetent than any i have ever seen, for any game) for hosting such stupid and incompetent events.

Its kind of hard to build a group to play with when the only places that sell cards outside of Phoenix are Target and Wal-Mart. And they dont hold events.

Really, there is no reason that a major corporation like UDE should require its customers to do their advertising and recruitment for them. This isnt a mom and pop hobby here, this is a major word wide gaming system based on a even larger video game intellectual property.

It's UDE's job to produce a playerbase to buy their products. UDE has actively chosen not to host any major events here, and has chosen not to work with local stores to recruit more players.

And forget Pheonix. Fine, you gusy can have your small group, whatever. I'm speaking for the rest of the damn state here. Not all of us can afford to host events ourselves, or pay for the minis so other people can play, or whatvere else people have said they did. IF someone wants to front the gas money to get me to phoenix every week, then I'd be more than willing to never speak of this again and quietly play the game. Otherwise, I'll keep complaining until something gets done. Or until UDE is willing to refund all my purchased Minis and Cards, since they are going to waste here.

Not to piss on your parade....but Mozu(just like his signature says) is actually from Tucson.

I can tell you that money on my end is short and while i am EXTREMELY interested in the Mini's...I am a fan of the TCG through and through. So my discretionary income definitely goes towards the cards rather than the mini's, if i could i would definitely play both. If your area doesn't have a store, than perhaps find a public meeting place where you could play. UDE is not at fault for your place not having to play.

As far as buying minis/cards online....you won't find many converts to that here. Almost all of us know how much we can buy boxes/cases for online and buy them at the brick and mortars instead. We all know and understand how very it is for these places to go under and leave us without a place to play. What might be good for the individual is not good for the whole.

Secondly, you're right, Tucson can have it's "small" group for the tcg. The 10-14 folks that get together every week will have a great time, we always do.

Thanks bro. I'm 100% with you. They can say all they want they support the local stores... Bottom line is there is a huge difference in price from mini's to cards. $4-5 dollars is 19 cards (24-26 cents per card) and $12-$15 per booster of mini's ($5 per mini high end). Hell a starter of cards is 1/2 the price of the starter for mini's and you end up with two playable decks VS 4 mini's. And not one person has said how the cards you always got extended art cards win or lose weekly.... But mini's you get a booster opened and winner usually got the rare/epic(2 per case) where the cards (2 epics per box).... Case of Mini's online is about $150(after shipping) and there's only 2 epics, Yet box of cards even at most shops run you $90 and you get OMG 2 epics.... THERE's the math for the people not wanting to accept that there is a HUGE UNFAIRNESS!!!!!!!! And BTW for those still not wanting to see it the REAL TRUTH.... I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED ON THE DELUXE EDITION AND MAPS AND DICE AND...... Don't forget you need to pay to play......

So again 1st we need to spend a HUGE amount to just get a taste of the mini game.... Then we need to Kiss up to UDE.... Then we need to have events, when oviously like everyone has agreed to, THIS GAME IS EXPENSIVE..... And Prove there's a playerbase when in most cases the only way to buy mini's for some is Target/Walmart/Game Stop..... And then in the end they scedule an event place it on the calendar and 6-8 days before, REMOVE SAID EVENT with possably THE ONE BONUS GOING FOR THE GAME(Tiger scrach off/chance to get my Ret Pally in the game FOREVER)

    se7enth

They screwed you?!  Nobody made you purchase anything.  BTW, unless you purchased the items direct from UDE directly then your request for refunds should go to the online place your purchased from.

You whole beef in this situation, for lack of a better term, is completely outrageous.  It's like if you played XBOX and bought a game to play with others on XBOX Live only to find out that nobody was playing, you want XBOX to refund your money because of it!  Really?!

I'm all for everyone around to country to play and enjoy this game, but it take all players help and contributions to make it successful to get to that point.  Since you clearly too "irrate" to contribute, then I suggest that you pursue something else.

    Re: Arizona Officially Forgotten.

    Hello all,

First off, I want to promise we haven't officially forgotten Arizona. In fact, Mike talks about Arizona soooo much that it's technically impossible to forget about Arizona. It's been scientifically proven.

So the question really is "how do I get a play group started in my town and a store to support us?" Trust me - that's not an easy issue to solve. I've done that both on a personal level (a gamer), as a manager responsible for OP for a gaming store, and now as the manager _of_ OP for Upper Deck.

The fact is that most games start small. You have a group of players that pick up a new game, and other people see you playing and having fun so they're interested in playing. Four people becomes six, six becomes ten, and ten becomes 15 to 25.

Usually these groups start with a couple active players that reach out to their local stores and encourage them to start hosting events. This might take some work, and sometimes the players have the take the initiative to help the store get MANTIS running, arrange for a TO to sanction the tournaments, etc.

So how do you start? For WoW Minis, I truly believe the Battleground kits are a great start. You get eight figures and 32 Action Bar cards, which is a great way to new players invested in organized play.

MANTIS supports participation-only events, which is a great way to advertise your tournaments without scaring new players. Some stores start with casual leagues, which can be tracked this way so we (Upper Deck) know you have an active player base.

For the Spectral Safari, we had a finite number of prizes available to us for these events. So we went to look at places that are already running Minis and ordering Battleground kits. Ultimately this the only way we know that there is an active player base in a community. So if you are playing or running tournaments, please make sure they're getting uploaded.

    Cheers,
    Ben

sorry dude but your foolishness baffles me

the TCG runs far higher in price than the mini's game does.. by a long shot.. yes you may get packs for cheaper.. but you also need 4 of the cards to make them effective if you wish to be competitive.. and considering most rares per new set (ones worth getting) go for $5-10 per card.. that adds up fast.. because you will never be able to trade for every card you want.. so you're forced to buy the ones you need singley.. either by your local store or Ebay.. and when it comes to epics.. the TCG prints about 15 or more epics per set most of which again you need 2-3 at least to be effective with them.. they usually go for $10-15 per card and upwords of $20

you never know which epics your getting so all in all.. i'd say an average good mini team if you bought your stuff individually to get the action bar cards would cost a significant amount less to play than the tcg ever will to even make one deck and make it viable (most cases anyways.. there are a few exceptions to making a couple cheap decks.. such as the kil'zin decks)

Hey all I am heading up to the RCQ for the tcg this weekend and was wondering if anyone would be able to teach me how to play the minis. I will be hung up with the card game for the duration of the tournament but immediately following i'd like to see if i could try to squeeze in a game or two of the minis with someone who could teach me. Tony?

Hey guys I still have a box of minis that I got from blizzcon08 and I haven't found a good place to play and thus no real reason to invest into the game any further. Does anyone have a regular gaming group or location that runs any events? I live in mesa and can travel a bit if need be. PM me

    Thanks

Hi, I'm hoping to get started on the game, (TCG, Phx ftw) with hopefully some others.

And if you are really passionate about playing either of the games, get people involved with it.  It's not to hard to find new people.  Hell, try a library, young people hang out there, and young people like games.  1+1 = 2 usually.

Either way, I don't see anyone getting through Se7enth, but thought I should add something.

I too am looking for anywhere in the East Valley that might be holding Mini tournaments. I've played the game a few times with friends who went to Blizzcon 08'. if there are any Tournaments and anyone could list off where and where they play that would be great. please either send me a message through these boards of just post on here please. It takes a dedicated player base to make a company notice the area. Much like the pre-releases Magic hold in the state, and the events that took place in Arizona when the original DBZ TCG was very popular.
