    Re: Realm Championship Weekend

Well with my realms championships moving from Atlanta to Orlando, I won't be able to go. It's just too far of a trip. I'm all for moving tournaments around, but this kinda makes the realms season pointless for me.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't travel 20 miles for a Bearlady EA, much less the 160 miles it would take to go to a regional in Birmingham. I'm gonna play in the local Realms qualifier and enjoy myself. It just sucks knowing that I will not be able to play in the championships. The last one was in Atlanta which is 3 hours both ways, Orlando would be about 8 1/2 both ways + a hotel room + miss a day or two of work.

I don't begrudge UDE holding it in Orlando. It's only fair to the Florida players that had to travel so far to get to Atlanta last time. I'm just bummed out about it

Invites only pass down in the Realm Championship in the reqion of the qualifier. This can cause some people to be qualifed for two or more Championships and effectively "burn" an invite slot.

This seems pretty counterproductive to the community when combined with the Realm Conquerer competition (which encourages traveling to other realms and taking a top spot).

Our Realm qualifiers had 4 people..

It was absolutely terrible... we have more consistantly on battleground nights..

NO one was willing to pay 25 dollars to get the terrible prizes offered, and since our city is so far away from the Realm championship (at least a 12 hour drive, plus border check) the invite meant basically nothing... Really, the only people who showed up are the 4 of us who are commited to the game who wanted to show support to the store for holding the events..

I too would like to know what a "rare" loot item entails.

If top 8 all get spectral tigers, I will be booking my flight immediately.... if top 8 all get turtles.... It would be near impossible for me to pay for my trip with prizes.

    Please advise.

It means that prizes had to be announced, but the specifics weren't finalized at the time. We are going to try and get tigers for first, DOW rare loot for 2-4 and rockets 5-8.  The Realm Open rare loot will most likely be the DOW rare loot.

While I understand the reasoning of a "progressive" loot card system, I dont completely agree with it.... FIrst place at each of these is already getting substantially better prizes than the remainder of top 8 finishers.  if loots were distributed for top 8 participants (like in DMF) it would make it reasonable for high end players to travel to "all" events.  Not even brad watson can get first in every event :P

20 people showed at our Realm Q, was 21 last week. One of the top two finishers did come back to play a new deck type and I assume for the Conq contest. The other top finisher will probably not do another Realm Q the rest of the season which is kind of sad because he is the only person in LA who desires the winning EA card; he collects EAs. While I attendance is down 6-7 people on the average it is doing better then what some of us thought it would be.

Guessing by the talk imo the attendance will probably start taking bigger hits but talk it cheap and who knows maybe some of the people not attending will decide to come back.

It seems there is a huge negative feeling about block in general but maybe just because there is no talk of deck possibilties. Both the realms we have had so far have had some really interesting and new decklists.

For example I was using Unrelentling Assualt as one of my win conditions...I think people completely forgot about this card with the stranglehold Hammer of Justice/Cyclone put on heros attacking.

Saw another deck making use of Vigor, solo fire mage deck, affliction warlock, holy paladin rush and realistically one could probably make any number of druid variants with all the powerhouse cards druid have now a days. This is not even including the sham variants, priest variants, warrior variants from existing decks that are doing well.

Imo block is much more diverse then regular constructed because you can make a deck from just about every class and spec. Maybe demons take a hit but the rest is almost wide open.

Maybe after 3-4 tournaments the best decks would rise to the top and things would settle down but right now things are wide open and imo pretty fun.

Is this more than the Realm Qualifier you had in the spring?

Don't be so sure. "Just about every class and spec" is probably an overstatement though.

I am not sure what you mean by "More".... more prizes? higher cost? more people?

This realm qualifier in spring (as far as I remember) was cancelled (I think UDE asked the owner to move it on a date that did not work for the store)...

Normally, we have 10-15 people for our regional level events (what I feel is an equivalent tournament)..

As far as I know, those cost $20.
