Hmmm... We have this little story in French and I'm not sure if it exists in English....  There was this little frog that wanted to be big has a bull.... It inflated and inflated until... It blew up...

Boasting will do you no good and arguing about it won't either.  Prove your worth in the Worlds and people will listen at you...

So I have to ask, is this also where you tell us that Healing Wave is better than Wrath of Air Totem?

Look. We tested the matchup. I'm the only guy who made DMF top 8 with Goblin Shredder, so I LOVE Goblin Fog engine. If you don't want to hear it, fine, but here it is: Zoo wins if given infinite time, your team wins if it runs off the clock. Wouldn't you at least be interested in this sort of knowledge to plan out your Worlds victory?

I wonder if this guy tests with Ted. Testing for 16 hours a day must requite a lot of people. And they do seem like a good pairing.

BB, I think I agree with the OP here, Zoo definitely can't beat Fog, and I'm definitely not sure how you think it can. They start the game either a few ticks ahead of you or in lycanthropy, zoo players choice, and then it just goes downhill from there. Jaina and the KKBrothers can't attack, the WElementals attack is largely worthless, and the Furies die immediately, getting off one attack. I don't think the slightly hardier Old Bonesii will carry you to victory, somehow. And don't say Viper Sting. We know how that does.

Also, OP, you're wrong and I would bet against you winning Worlds, though I am curious what you think the "best" team is.

I guess my testing of viper sting turned out a lot different than yours. Either that or I am bad and you are teh pwn.

2 Kaustron with not a damn thing better to than trap down a single shredder to get Viper sting on him? Sounds like a solid way of puting your characters to use. Or I guess I could just sit and QQ about how my KK brother's are totaly worthless now.

Also an Old bones on the opponents spawn will help give a few extra tics to get the game in hand. If anyone had playtested this much at all they would have a clue.

This team might be sucessful if you didnt need to kill anything. Did any of your playtesters camp the flag return? You have to be able to kill figs or you wont cap any flags.

Admittedly I did not test this precise version, I tested something far removed from his concept, in fact.

Also, to the OP, if you go and play Mortimer's, noone will be surprised. Sorry.

i dont think you guys quite get it, the sheer speed of this team allows it to never get caught, this team never needs to attack, the only reason the gear is there is a last ditch contingancy plan, the idea is the shredder kites in to a corner/ guard the vp, while prowler is the key, he gets the tropy and the rocket allows him to swoop in and out of anwhere, he effectively can use 5 movements in any tick after 6 and thru terrain so with the shredder getting chased down and the rethligore acting as a divert wall the prowler is in and out, steals the flag, get a kill ad then thats the game, because from there the opponent has to kill everything and its to hard to do if you play right.. i would suggest really playing this team properly, as for the kiala haruka thangal team, weve tried it, it doesnt have the speed to catch this team and cannot beat it if played right on both parts.

as for zoo, go for it, pets are to slow to catch up.. and aoe with fog is pointless, you can not make the attck so aslong as shredder is active and the other 2 are moving 3-4 spaces per turn it comes down to a divide and conquer.

The main problem I see in your band, is that you are solely about flag capping.  As soon as someone sits a character or two on your spawn... you are going to be in trouble.  Cat can still try and rip to shreds, and reth can get in the mix too so its not the end.  But dealing with a goalkeeper is something every flag team needs to handle.  And as some one posted earlier, big burly tank teams like Bolvar, Phad and Phad are tough to kill fast for that team.

As for zoo, I'll gladly leave you all thinking they can't touch the shredder.  If you know what to do, you can easily give yourself 3 full ticks of 1st action--even with the shredder fogging.  Thats plenty of shots at the shredder.  And yes their pets can die fast.. but if your cat is trying to run past 2 furies... she is gonna get hurt, and then end up running into 2 more pets once she escapes--she could die very easily.   2 armor from lycanthropy will certainly help keep her alive, but she wont last forever.

You do have the honor advantage, you are 2 kills in the lead.  But be wary... good zoo players have many outs against your fog.  So don't be suprised when they summon a pet, and take a free shot with viper on your exposed shredder.  This map is big.. but it only takes about 5 ticks to pin down the enemy.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

The Shredder team almost always looses to Kiala/Thangal/Haruka.  You have to get to Kiala, and with Taunt, 10 health, and Haruka around, that's not easy, especially if they have the right side of the map.

Look, no one is saying anyone is inferior, but if you come on the boards and start bragging and smack talking, you better be prepared to take some back.  I agree, nothing is auto win against everything and a lot of times it comes down to match ups, but more than not, shredder can not hang with several of the other heavily favored teams.

I have seen Zoo beat it, not like roll over it, but beat it.  My Kiala/Haruka/Thangal team I've posted about here is going to give it a hell of a match up.  I've played it against 3 different shredder fog variations and it's won every time, without giving up a single VP.

If you are so confident, and you sound like you are, I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you succeed with it.  But, with all due respect, no one likes a braggard.

Best of luck and see you at worlds!

Fair enough. God knows there are writers on this very site who've done worse (like hype up a band then show up with a band that crushes it at tourneys). *cough*. Not that that's wrong, mind you. If I had a column I'd do the same. ;)

Re: i have a dirty secret..

The OP turned up to our Realm Champs telling us that his combination of Bolvar double Savin was unbeatable. Unsurprisingly, in the end, it was not.

    Big fish, small pond perhaps.

I am from Australia but I have played at at least half a dozen large international events at Gen Con and Origins over the years (including several world championships in various games). This guy, I believe, is the New Zealand champion.

It is amazing how many people from Australia and New Zealand (now, apparently) overestimate their ability or underestimate the ability of others. This is due to the smaller player base and the lack of decent competition on a weekly basis. It is also due to simple inexperience.

I think this is true of not only countries with a small overall player base but for those cities or towns where no one ever goes outside the local environment to play on a larger scale. At least once one or two players have done that enough times, they bring back change.

These days there is really no excuse to not sample more play styles and higher levels of skill than those to which one is accustomed due to the existence of vassal. Thankfully, over the years, I have been able to continue to play and test against those elite players I have met overseas or online in any of the games I have played thanks to the existence of this gem of a program.

P.S. The original band will not cut it when someone just sits on the flag.

Re: i have a dirty secret..

i have to agree, turning up to australia rhealms thinking i had what was a unbeatable team after just learning the game was being over confident, the rulings here still werent clarified so the way i had been playing up until then was all wrong.. so basically lack of information and support from ude was a big problem..
not only that but turning up and finding out you had spoils over there and we didnt and i had never seen any of it before hurts also.. thats going on 6 months ago now and things have progressed here dramatically.
and yes i am the new zealand champion and there are alot of quality players that play here.. when i won the nationals i did it undefeated through the whole tournament, 14-0 thats sealed and constructed. it may be a case of experience, but thats why we here have put in alot of time recently.

as for my confidence/arrogance i would rather sit here cocky then to sit here and doubt myself..

That, and I wonder if I'll be seeing the TCG players again soon that Minis stole away. ;-)
