Edit:  Weird, the quote didn't carry.  I was responding to BlackBloc's "hate drafting is too rewarding."

I've been saying this for weeks, and all I usually get in response is silence or "LOL L2P NUB."

People convinced themselves that the problems they were seeing in draft were due to the 2 SoW boosters, and that subbing in a core booster would fix everything.  Because, you know, what the drafting pool really needed was a much broader range of classless monsters with unique cards to ruin everything.

I hope all you draft-loving hippy jerks who made fun of me and hurt my feelings open Monster boosters all day!

I personally love the draft format. Monsters are underrated, :-P.

Agreeing that hate drafting is too rewarding does not conflict with me thinking you should L2P, NUB. :P

The game is what it is. No sense complaining now. If hate drafting is rewarding, I guess I'll just hate draft my way to top 8...

I just don't like it as much as drafting in other games (and considering I think drafting is the bestest thing ever, if I dislike it in one game it should say something).

I'm pretty much in the same boat then.  Drafting was my FFF for Dreamblade and Magic, so it's not like I'm uncomfortable with the format in general, I just don't think it works for this game.  I'll still do it at Worlds, I'm just going to complain incessantly if I don't win.

I'm really not talking about anyone specific (not Ben, who I know has), but I wonder how much many of the people gushing about WoW minis drafting have actually played it.  I've played it a ton in the past few weeks through the power of the internet, and though I was hoping it would grow on me, practice has only convinced me more that it's kind of lame.

Ben - I agree that the Monster faction has gems, some of which are overlooked, but it's been my experience that the vast majority of Monster boosters are terrible in draft, especially now that we're doing 1 Core, 1 SoW.

Re: War College - Limited Skillz

I would rather play a format of terrible pieces entirely than any format involving more than 1 booster of SoW. I'd rather do 2x Core, TBQH. SoW epics are : /.

I haven't played draft as much as I'd like to to get a really solid feel for it, but I've played a bit. (20-25 drafts since the game came out, maybe 10 Core-SoW, a few 2x SoW, a few 2x Core)

BlackBloc, I might finally take you up on installing Vassal. Write a guide and put it in Gen D and I'll do it, :).

Re: War College - Limited Skillz

ive done lots of drafts in all formats, and double SoW is god awful. its my belief its pushed just because they made so freakin much of it and sold less of it (maybe) coz the set is smaller, also possibly why its used for prizes (which honestly i dont need any boosters so never play in those events).

SoW seems very weighted towards epic rarity. additionally the class structure within each individual set is weighted differently. monster packs are also mostly trash in SoW, whereas Core has good monsters that arent Vashj. 1 Core and 1 SoW is perfectly acceptable.

100% agree, and 1 Core/1 SoW makes those ZOMG epics rarer, it doesn't remove them from the equation.   Rarer can easily turn into just your opponent having one, instead of you and your opponent having one.

Agree here too.  I'm not complaining that Core Monsters are bad, I'm complaining that using both sets means the Monster faction has a greater diversity of classless characters that can only use a tiny subset (now tiner) of cards and cards that can only be used by a tiny subset (now tinier) of characters.  Using 2 sets flat-out means you're more likely to get automatically dead picks out of Monster packs which is why they don't get invited to any popular kid parties.

It would be best to just do 2 Core set, eliminating the SoW epics entirely and consolidating the range of impotent Monsters into a state of usefulness.  Then all I would have to QQ about is every other part of WoW minis drafting.

Re: War College - Limited Skillz

IMO dual Core rewarded ABC farming a bit too much (9+ ABCs for a 3vs3 was common). With a weaker second pack character-wise, it actually makes Core characters more valuable picks. This makes the good core set generic ABCs (Mana Potion comes to mind) into solid early-mid picks, rather than auto first picks. You can't afford to gamble on seeing good characters in SoW, and you can't afford to waste a first pick on an ABC anymore, unless it's a stellar card in a class that has decent to better common, and bomb rare, representatives in SoW (*cough*Flash of Light*cough*).
