Something great about this game is that any booster ($15) can be opened and played as a tournament legal team.  For a local scene, I really enjoy being able to play straight from a brand new booster.

That's still a bit above his budget, for 20$ a pop or so per Haruka, not to mention the minis needed to catch Healing Wave and Chain Heal. Thangal itself is about 12$ or so too. All told, starting from scratch and assuming he needs some extra commons to get cards, I'm seeing this as a 70$ or so warband...

I'd bet you could throw the whole thing together for half that, honestly.

I found them on sites for $7-$8 a piece here

Ah, but is that "I'm selling them for 7-8$" or "I would totally sell them for 7-8$ except I'm all out of stock"? Around here, at 20 poppers (CANadian) they have a hard time keeping them in stock.

    Re: Thinking of Starting

    Goblin Shredder
    Storm Rager
    Blind Light Murloc

Dump Blindlight Murloc and go for Harvest Golem. Pass Fear Generator to Goblin Shredder and let it hold Scroll of Strength. Have Harvest hold the Buzzsaw and Swiftness Potion. Storm Rager stays with its ABCs.

Basically the team would go for movement effects to try to process Harvest Golem's secondary ability. With Shredder casting Fear Generator on both itself and Harvest Golem by tick 2 and Storm Rager crits, it should happen at least three times in a game. Chain Lightning is a little more do-able when your enemies are clustered around Harvest and have to seriously consider moving to attack Storm Rager.

    Radak Doom Bringer
    Azarak Wolfs Blood
    Thangal

Well both Azarak and Radak needs ABC outside of their packaged ABC to make them viable. Thangal is strong in its own right though... you probably want another team but Thangal is a good purchase nonetheless (for both Starfire and itself).

    Phladus the Enlightened
    Timmo Shade Step
    Victoria Jaton

In truth if you want to run a bunch of Alliance common figures, go for the triple tech of Phadalus, Moonshadow and Elendril. The mentioned team is strong as they are all individually strong for their honor (especially if you obtain Thangal and pass Starfire to Moonshadow) and have the flexibility of shifting between either physical or magical.

    Re: Thinking of Starting

Harvest Golem comes with Fear Generator and Swiftness Potion. Shredder comes with Buzzsaw and Scroll of Strength. As both are mechanicals, you can switch the upgrades around and have Shredder carry Fear Generator and Scroll while Harvest Golem carries the Buzzsaw. Well you can play around and have Shredder carry both upgrades but it'll really increase the time it takes to buff your entire party (though you can potentially have both mechanicals with all their upgrades before tick 10).

You can have a look at the website that was recommended to you. It lists the ABCs that comes with a character.

p.s: Any particular reason all of the miniatures selected are from the Core Set?

    Re: Thinking of Starting

I just wanted to add, for a map you can pick up a deluxe starter set and they have a "blank" map that you can put terrain on anywhere you like.  This way you can make a map just like the Boston DMF or the Gencon maps.

They are additional ability cards you can attach to your character.  For example, Flash of Light is a Paladin heal card.  Any Paladin character can use this card, so you can add a heal onto any Paladin in the game.  You're limited to 2 ABCs and these abilities have additional limitations, but the idea is that you can mix and match additional skills on all of your characters.

    Re: Thinking of Starting

The easiest thing would be to buy a starter deluxe or starter to test the game with a friend.

Plus you'd get UBases this way =)

Best ranking at weekly draft : 4th (5 showed up and I got a bye :D)
Number of weekly drafts : 44 and counting.
0-4 drop at worlds (pairings suck)
Once won a game in DMF, my opponent didn't show up.

We want to introduce the finer points of the game to encourage the guy to play... so maybe we ought to forget about the Ubase idea.  ;-)
