Blood of the Gladiators out of Print???

I don't know if this has been brought up in the forums yet, but I wanted to see if anyone else has heard the same thing?

Last night after our draft ended and we went up to pick out which packs we wanted the owner was out of Blood of the Gladiator boosters and when asked when he would have more he told us that they were no longer being printed.

I know that Scourgewar is coming out in a couple weeks but it still seems too early for UDE to stop printing any set in the current block.

Re: Blood of the Gladiators out of Print???

Technically, Blood of Gladiators has been out of print for a while. Even Fields of Honor has been out of print for a while. UDE makes one large print run based on expectations of how much they'll need. The only time they've ever gone back to print (as far as has been publicized) was for Heroes of Azeroth.

What your store's owner actually means (even if he/she doesn't realize it) is that the product is no longer available from his/her distributors. This usually happens much quicker with the sets that have a mount loot due to speculators, but eventually happens with every set (except, seemingly, for Dark Portal).

You can still find boxes of any of the sets online.

The last three sets are easily available online at 40-50 each box if you are not lucky enough to know real life places with close to the same prices.

I would be more worried about getting cards from the March block if I was you. They are out there but considering these cards are overall better then the last block and are getting more difficult to get they will probably start going up in price more sooner then later.

Re: Blood of the Gladiators out of Print???

I'm not so worried about not getting the packs, I have mostly everything I could want from the set. I just thought it weird that the store was unable to get more packs, at least that was the impression the associate gave us at the time.

As a group our more immediate concern was not being able to practice drafting the set once or twice more before Champs this weekend.

Yep, if the owner is too lazy to look around then that's probably it for BOG for that store.  We have that problem from time to time, there are tons of distributors out there that would gladly sell boxes, owners just have to call them and set up an account.

Re: Blood of the Gladiators out of Print???

This is kind of a question about semantics. Is the set out of print? Yes. But, every set is "out of print" even before the release date. There is usually only one large printing of a set and that happens well before it hits the streets. From that point on it is no longer being actively printed.

This initial printing gets shipped to Upper Deck who stores it in their warehouse. Upper Deck then sells this to any number of first tier distributors and large retail operations (Wal-Mart, Target, Gamestop, etc.) At some point Upper Deck might sell out of the set, meaning that there is no more in their warehouse. This is usually marked by announcement of some sort from the company because this is considered an achievement and a sign that people are interested in the product.

But, even after that point, there is still usually a good amount of the product in the distribution channels. One distributor may have sold out of their supply, but unless Upper Deck is sold out, they can usually go back and order more. Also, different distributors may have an ample supply. It's worth mentioning this to your local game store so that they take the initiative to check with other suppliers and not just pass off the answer that it's out of print.

my store has the opposite case.  we have plenty of boxes from most sets it seems, just that not many people play there which means not many buy them.
