Arena questions for a revived player

Hello, I have not played the WoW tcg in about 2 years. I am strongly considering getting back into it. But I have a question. The arena cards such as arena allies, arena quests, etc. How do they differ from other cards? Can they be mixed with previous and new sets or can they only be used with other arena cards? Also do they need an arena hero if one exists? or are they only affected by cards that target arena cards? I apologize for being a n00b i have not played in a  long time and havent checked all the new cards. Also cards such as optimize can be used by both priests and hunters if i recall correctly yes? Also what is this arena grand melee i have heard about? Is it a new ruling or a tournament type? I look forward to positive responses.

    To answer your first question.

The Arena Grand Melee is a format, but also a promotional box set.  The box set includes two new Heroes and new cards specific to the box which introduced the new keyword Preparation (which means "You can play this card on your first turn without paying its cost").  It also includes a deck of Arena Grand Melee cards, which are used in a fun format which is explained in the box set.
