Last weekend there was a RQ at the local store I play at on Saturdays.
Travis and I tested decks out two days before and I was torn on what to
play. I was expecting heavy ally decks and I knew Marvin was playing
org rush and Travis was playing Obliveron rush. I made up two decks; a
destruction UD warlock and a BE Prot pally. I called Tim and he wanted
me to make him a deck but there really wasn't any time so I told him he
had two choices. He picked the warlock thus I was left with the
paladin.
After testing my deck ended up like this.
Hero: Valterus
4 Counterattack
4 Swift Discpline
2 Blues Brothers
2 Sunken Treasure
2 Eye of the Storm
1 Silvermoon City
4 Hammer of Justice
3 Holy Strike
4 Pennance
3 Convert
3 Resolute Aura
2 Sacred Purification
3 Doomplate Shoulderguards
3 Amani Mask of Death
2 Bonefist Gauntlets
2 Cloak of Darkness
2 Master Cannoneer Boots
2 Slayer's Waistguard
2 Antondias's Aegis of Rapt Concentration
2 Berserker Bracers
2 Skum Bago
2 Jin'rok, The Great Apocalypse
4 Hope Ender
Side:
2 Holy Shield
2 Sacred Purification
3 Blessing of Salvation
3 Ya'za the Vandal
The deck is simply stablize early game building up armor and either kill with hope ender or Jin'rok.
9 people showed up.
First game I went against Tim and the warlock. He couldn't do any
damage to me really and his belt of blasting didn't get going quick
enough before I was able to Jin'rok and bring him down. Both games
went the same way.
Second game I went against Marvin playing the Org Rush. First game I
was able to get my armor out and stablize converting when needed and
then Jin'rok for the win. Of course, I knew what was in his deck and
sideboard and knew 3 smashes would be making an appearence in this
second duel. WIth a horde of Munkin and smashes I couldn't stabalize
enough and my Jin'rok was smashed in my face for a loss. Third game I
had to walk in thin ice around his smashes. I had to wait until I
could get enough armor out so that my shoulderguards would protect my
Jin'rok when it came into play. Doomplate Shoulderguards. While you
have 5 more or equipment, each other equipment is untargetable. So he
would have to deal with my shoulders before he could kill my weapon. I
managed to play around it and got my jin'rok out and he had nothing to
do but smash my shoulders so I would do 1 less damage, thanks to
resolute aura. I attacked him twice and he was left with no resources.
Third duel I went against Travis and Obliveron Rush. Travis wasn't
excited about the match up because we had tested the decks over the
last few days and my deck was performing well against Obliveron. I got
my armor out quick and a pennance and holy strike/convert here and
there and I took first game. The thing we didn't test was the side
board against my deck and I wasn't happy knowing Arcing Smash was going
to be used against me. The Totem of Decay was also very annoying when
I had to charge up my hope ender before it actually got any attack and
it was able to eat away at my armor. I was able to take second game
with my damage spells.
Forth match I went against Jeff and Blackice. I hate scrapper ironbane
and on turn 5 he came into play. I didn't have a holy strike in my
hand and he eventually ate away the 3 armor I did have. I had to
pennance him 2 times in order to kill him also, but it allowed me to
get my bracers on the field to start the slow bleed Myriam was doing
and get more armor out. I took game 1. In came the side equipment
hate again, which was of course to be expected. He had 2 scrappers out
at once. I holy striked 1 of them. He attacked with the second one
and I was able to convert it. He was then forced to dig for his other
scrappers. It gave me time to get my armor and weapons up and Jin'rok
him to submission.
Semi finals I was undefeated and fought Travis and Obliveron again. He
wasn't happy about it. First game I didn't see a single convert,
pennance and was smacked in the face for a loss. Second game I was
dreading the Equipment hate again. I was able to stave off some
attacks and I think I finally saw a pennance. I either won the second
game or I lost the second game. I don't remember exactly. I just
remember in the end Obliveron rushed me enough to take the win match.
The decks there were played were
Pagatha Backlash (Tim)
Obliveron Rush (Travis)
Lionar Rush (Marvin)
Blackice (Jeff)
Koo'zar Rush (Trent)
Dot Warlock (Skippy)
Paladin Control with Gorehowl (Joey)
My Deck
Horde Boomkin (Kelly)
Paladin Control with Gorehowl and Obliverson split 1/2
Blackice/My deck took 3/4
Changes I would make would take out the Skumms and 1 hope ender and put
in 3 Blackout Truncheons. There were a lot of times a weapon, any
weapon, would had been nice. I might even throw in another berserker
bracer. They helped a lot in all the matches. As for Tankatroic
Goggles. I do not think they would have even helped me any more than
Amani Mask of Death. I do not run Holy Shock and with Bersker Bracers
out Myriam can ping me for 1 damage. The Amani mask just made it so there
couldnt be two copies out and it helped against Weldon becuase all of his
protectors died and I was able to swing away wth Jin'rok after getting
rid of Xanata the Lightsworn.
