    Call Out Your Store!

This isn't what most of you were thinking sorry... only good comments here (this time)...

Type: Store Name that you play at and State/City

Type: How Many Nights a week do they run Events? (1 event, 2 events, 3 events)

Type: Does the Store Owner Know you by name? (Yes, No, Sometimes)

Type: what three things (or more) should a new or seasoned player know about your store - truth (as well as nice things only please).  Example AC that works, clean, friendly, great prices, great prize support?!

I just wanted to see who is awake out there...

    Re: Call Out Your Store!

I play in some in the KC area, but my hometown is Topeka, and that's where the players I know are.  It's not at all a big scene there right now, but here's what I got:

    Gatekeeper, Topeka, KS

No events yet.  Players are meeting on Fridays, but mostly just because that's the same night as FNM that most of them play in.  If players are interested, I could try and run events there, though.

I've been going to the store for 14 or so years, so I know everyone that works there by name.  HOWEVER, the manager and oftentimes guy behind the counter, a redhead named Jim, is by and far one of the most outgoing nerds you'll ever meet, and he would learn and remember your name if you came in often enough (i.e. more than once).

Most of the people I play with there I know from my years playing Magic, so they are all from a card-playing standpoint, but a long-standing one at that.  Still, I don't think most of them play minis games a lot.  So, if you've seen the various skills that card gamers and minis players bring to this game, they'll be tending more towards the card gamer skills.  Everyone that plays is very friendly, and more than willing to help new players in to a game as well as seasoned players in to the scene.  Also, the tournaments are currently in KC (hour+ away), and we plan on carpooling to those.

I just wanted to see who is awake out there...

Colossal Comics, New Port Richey, FL.

We try to run 2 events a week, Wednesday Nights and Saturday afternoons, but Magic is still on everyone's minds, so it's hard to get people to spend money on Minis entry fees or booster drafs.

The store owner doesn't know me by name, but her two managers both do--normally, although neither of them knows me by this online nickname yet.

This store is practically invisible on U.S.19, and despite being there for about 6 years, people constantly remark about how they never knew the place was there until word of mouth spread to them.  I was in the same boat!  They have functional heating/air in the gaming area behind the comic sales area and have seating for something like 36 players for Magic.  I wager if they took out the GINORMOUS train set that was in the back, there's about double that in space now for gaming.  We're still working on getting prize support as far as I know, but I suspect now that all the kinks were worked out with UDE, we'll see all of the good events and battlegrounds at our store--well, the ones we're elidgible for.

We have about 16 minis players last I counted, but the number of active and competative players hovers more around 8, as fully half of our players are still working on learning the game.  The demos I ran over the last several weeks really got folks jazzed up about Minis, and I continue to earn my Specialist title by getting everyone I can to sit down for a demo.

I love the atmosphere there, despite having two players that can annoy the crap out of others if they run off at the mouth for too long.  So, we take the good with the bad.

I just love having a local game store again.

    Cheers!

    Re: Call Out Your Store!

Store: Carta Magica. Montreal, Quebec (Canada).

Time: Once a week, on Tuesdays

Store Owner Know you by name? Yes, in my case he does.

    Three things to know:

Awesome prize support. They buy two Battlegrounds kit, meaning 3x Daxin a week and tons of cards, plus we open boosters and everything including Battlegrounds stuff is thrown in a big pile and we draft from it in order of finish (1st to last, then last to 1st, so last pick gets 2 in a row!).

Huge crowds usually. We got 16 and 18 the last two weeks, 8 this week but there was a Canadians hockey game going on that night...

Tournament is at the same time as a Yu-gi-oh tournament. So I hope you're patient with kids!

    Re: Call Out Your Store!

This might be cheating, but oh well.

Store: CCGs Cards Comics and Games

How often are events: Minis on Mondays and TCG on Tuesdays. A lot of the guys also come down on Friday nights to casual it up.

Store owner know you by name: Only if I remember to read the name written on my underwear. : ^ P

    3 things:

    1) The guys here are really cool and mostly laid back - it's a really friendly group who know when to be competetive and when to be relaxed.

    2) If I don't have what you want, but can get it for you, I will.

3)I seat 24 comfortably, and can squeeze 36 in. We did just that for the Spectral Safari '08, and have remodeled to open up the floorplan since then.

    I'll add to BB's comment:

Friendly crowd for the most part.  It makes the games enjoyable.

    Re: Call Out Your Store!

Little Shop of Magic, Las Vegas Nevada.

1 event a week on Sunday afternoons.

Store owner knows me by name, as do most of the employees.

Three good things, well first off I would like to mention that the place has a huge gaming area, its the biggest space in town. Secondly, all the employees and the owner are great people, they all are informed and you don't walk out of there thinking they didn't do their best to help you with your specific needs. And lastly, I love their prize support, when we have a bad week in wow mini turn out, we still tend to get more prize support than any other tournament in Las Vegas with 2-3 times the amount of people, this guy knows how to run and keep players wanting to come back for more!

The Zone in Creve Coeur, IL

    Sunday at 1 pm

The owner knows all the regulars by name.

The atmosphere is pretty competitive, the WoW community has dwindled a bit, and the store recently flooded!

    Pet Shop Comics
    1191 Hillview Blvd. #4 & #5
    Louisville, KY 40229

    WoW minis Thursdays at 6:30pm.

He does know me by name, been going there for years.

    Things to know:
Petshop is the largest comics and collectables store in Kentucky.  I also believe he is the largest in the region, I can't remember.  It is huge (I don't know the square footage, but it is around 4k or so), clean, and a great family atmosphere.  Even if the game does not have prize support he will do his own prize support with gift certificates to the store.  Even if you don't play WoW minis he holds tournies for pretty much any game that in fashion and even out of fashion.  They have a TON of war games tables.  There is enough room for 50+ warhammer players, if that gives you an idea.  Constantly holding state and regional tournaments for card games and miniature games.  I also believe that the finals or something for Flames of War was held there.  His prizes are awesome and he is constantly having sales on product.  There is also a 45% shelf that he reguarly puts items on.
