Probably someone who doesn't need to have "good" defined for them.

    Well, see, here's the thing.

If you were serious and actually wanted "good" writing skills defined for you, you set yourself up for the reply when you left the period outside of the quotation marks...

On the other hand, if you were joking it looks like you were trolling, just trying to post in as many places as you possibly can, and so you set yourself up for the reply that you got.

I'm all about leaving punctuation marks outside of the quotes unless I'm quoting an entire sentence. It's a common misconception that it's grammatically incorrect to do so. Either format is acceptable.

Actually, I believe that is only true regarding British English. If I remember correctly, 'universal' American English has the punctuation placed always inside the quotations. I could be wrong, and differences in standards of what is considered correct English is not too important to be arguing about, so I'll concede the argument either way. I don't think it changes my point about trolling.

Well...I hope that I get one player, at least, out of all these posts.

But, in answer to the quotation-period question:  I am a legal proofreader and we are trained to always place the period within the quotations, anything else is an error.

    Re: Dune RPG

American english is universal?? Good god. Way to hijack a language. I thought English english was the norm. I guess that's why honour and colour are always spelt wrong then huh. (seriously, are they just too lazy to add an extra 'u'?!?! nnnyyyarrggghh!)

Although being in Oz I guess its a miracle we have any language at all, being a nation founded by convicts.

I always assumed Aussies just communicated with grunts and "Oi".

I'm aware of that.. but isn't there a special case where what's inside the quotes is a term and you're in the middle of a sentence or would it go like this: yak yak yak "blah," blabiddy blah blah blah.

    Re: Dune RPG

Teachers always tried to correct my spelling when I spelled the words "Colour", "Favourite", "Honour" and words of the like. It's not wrong. It's just not the way everyone is familiar with. And I thought that periods went inside of the quotations when ending a sentence. But I dont know. I work with a English Major, I'll have to ask her. lol

    Re: Dune RPG

They do go inside.. but I thought mine was a special case and I even debated before I posted. Deleting the quotation, puting my punctuation inside the quotes.. I did that for about 10 seconds
