    Rogue and Activated Powers

Once again, I seek the wise words from the dedicated people of this forum to solve the true meaning of Rogue, Power Absortion card.

    Rogue, Power Absorption
    Set Marvel Origins
    Version Power Absorption
    Cost 4
    Type Character
    Team X-Men
    ATK / DEF 7 ATK / 7 DEF
    Flight? Yes
    Range? No
    Ongoing? No
    Rarity R
    Card Text

At the start of the combat phase, target a character. You may use the target's activated powers this turn as if Rogue possessed them.

    Flavor Text

"Don't worry shugah -- the pounding ah'm about to deliver will be face to face."

    Artist Loren Lorente
    Number

    MOR-022

So, when this card is in play and the player want to copy a activated power, he must wait the power to be used to copy OR he just said he copy it? And if this activated power is specific to use in a character from specific affiliation, She copy and adapt for X-men affiliation or not? If the activated power has requirements, she must fit the requirements before use it?

Example: Rogue is copying the Doctor Octopus <>Doc Ock (Cost 4) activated power that reads "Activate ---> Target Sinister Syndicate defender has reinforcement this attack". She must use it on Sinister Syndicate or she could use it on X-men?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alessandro Franzen - Brazil

    Re: Rogue and Activated Powers

    Rogue, Power Absorption (MVL-026R, MOR-022R)
    Character, 4, X-Men, 7/7, Flight
At the start of the combat phase, Rogue gains target character's activated powers this turn.

At the start of the combat phase, Rogue's power triggers and you target a character.
When the triggered effect ersolves, Rogue gains that character's activated powers.

If the power has a 'self-reference', it is updated to Rogue's name.

    From the Comprhensive Rules (here):

500.6a    Some modifiers give a character one or more powers found on a second character. If the gained powers have any associated keywords (such as Ally, Cosmic, Leader, etc.), that character doesn’t gain those keywords. All references to the second character by name in the gained powers are changed to the name of the first character. This does not change the names in wordings like "cards named <name>," or "a/nother <name>", as these are referring to any card named <name>, not to a specific character card. (See rule 201.2d.)

Example: Rogue, Power Absorption reads, "At the start of the combat phase, Rogue gains target character’s activated powers this turn." Kang, Ultimate Kang reads, "Activate, stun another Kang you control >>> Remove all attackers from this attack. Use only if Kang is defending." If Rogue gains Kang’s activated power, it will read "Activate, stun another Kang you control >>> Remove all attackers from this attack. Use only if Rogue is defending." Rogue’s controller will need to stun a character "named Kang" he controls to help pay the cost, not a character "named Rogue," but the power will check whether Rogue herself—the character the power is on—is defending, not whether the original Kang is defending.

    Dr. Octopus, Otto Octavius (MSM-015C)
    Character, 4, Sinister Syndicate, 7/7
Whenever Dr. Octopus attacks, you may exhaust target unprotected character. ¶
Activate >>> Target Sinister Syndicate defender has reinforcement this attack.

So, if Rogue copies Dr. Octopus, the activated power she'll gain will read: "Activate >>> Target Sinister Syndicate defender has reinforcement this attack."

(She doesn't copy Dr. Octopus's triggered power).

    Re: Rogue and Activated Powers

    Greetings,

So what if Rogue copies the Cosmic Power from Galactus 7-drop:
Card Text Cosmic: Activate >>> Galactus has invulnerability this turn. Target opponent loses half his endurance, rounded up. Use this power only during your attack step.

Does she need a cosmic counter or she gets only the best of galactus, i mean, does she can take out half of the opponent's endurance even without the cosmic?!?!?

    My Thanks from Latveria.

    Re: Rogue and Activated Powers

Rogue PA will only copy Galactus's activated power only if he has a cosmic counter as her power resolves. If he does not, his power isn't copied.

Once Rogue has copied his power, you may use it during your attack step. She doesn't need a cosmic counter for you to do so. (The Cosmic keyword itself isn't copied (500.6a), so Rogue doesn't become a Cosmic character, and can't have a cosmic counter).
