I was just wondering if you could use a Pathetic Atempt to negate a Pathetic Atempt being used against you, because I thought I heard from somewhere that you couldn't do that.

    Re: Pathetic Atempt question

    Hello everybody,

I might have your anwser. Let´s check the text of this card.

      Pathetic Attempt
    Pathetic Attempt
    Set Coming of Galactus
    Cost 4
    Type Plot Twist
    Team Null
    Flight? No
    Range? No
    Ongoing? No
    Rarity C
    Card Text

Negate target effect targeting you or a card in play you control.

    Flavor Text

"Leave or stay, it does not matter! But seek not to interfere with the will of Galactus."

    Number

    MCG-039

Besides this card is from the Coming of Galactus set, she don´t had the EPIC designation on it. So, if it´s a epic PT, you really cannot be negated by standard cancel effects like Not so Fast or Nice Try, but this is not the case here.

When you play it, this effect goes into the chain and wait to be resolved. If the opposing player play another Pathetic Attempt, the effect of this card goes to the chain over the previous one and resolves first IF the the card text is able to nullify your effect... but she couldn´t do that.

Pathetic Attemp is suppose to cancel PT, Locations or character card text that affect you or a card in play... A card in play means a character you control in the field, location or on-going plot twist in the resource row.

Pathetic Attempt is a non-ongoing Plot Twist instant card effect that come and go in a glimpse of an eye and, technally, it doesn´t in play to become a legal target for another card of the same type, but can be negated by other PT or payment powers that can target other Plot twist played by ther opponent.

So, Pathetic attempt could not be negated by other Pathetic Attempt.

    All my best regards,

    Pathetic Attempt (MCG-039C)
    Plot Twist, 4
Negate target effect targeting you or a card in play you control.

No, you can't. A Pathetic Attempt on the chain is neither an effect that is targeting you, nor a card in play you control; as such, you can't play a copy of PA targeting another PA on the chain.
