    Gearfried Control

    Monsters: 19

1 - Dark Magician of Chaos
    2 - Destiny Hero - Dasher
2 - Kuraz the Light Monarch

    1 - D.D. Warrior Lady
    1 - Destiny Hero - Disk Commander
    1 - Elemental Hero Stratos
    3 - Exiled Force
3 - Gearfried the Iron Knight
    2 - Mask of Darkness
    1 - Morphing Jar
    1 - Sangan
    1 - Spirit Reaper

    Spells: 12

    1 - Brain Control
    2 - Destiny Draw
    2 - Fires of Doomsday
    1 - Heavy Storm
    1 - Monster Reborn
    1 - Mystical Space Typhoon
    1 - Premature Burial
2 - Reinforcement of the Army
3 - Smoke Grenade of the Thief

    Traps: 9

    2 - Blast with Chain
    1 - Crush Card Virus/Blast with Chain
    2 - Limit Reverse
    1 - Mirror Force
    1 - Torrential Tribute

    Side: 15

    3 - D.D. Assailant
    2 - D.D. Crow
    2 - Dust Tornado
    1 - Kinetic Soldier
    2 - Lightning Vortex
2 - Mobius the Frost Monarch
    3 - Threatening Roar

This is my take on not-so-classic Gearfried Control.  This is merely a concept deck currently (I obviously don't have a CCV in real life, but I don't have Exiled, Stratos, or even Gearfried), so feel free to suggest anything for this deck.  I'm doing my best to collect the necessary cards.

Surprisingly, the Destiny Draws don't seem to be dead as often as I had thought they would be, considering I only have three targets in the deck for them.  I haven't actually played with them in the deck yet, but they used to be D.D.R.s, and almost every time I drew into a D.D.R. I would wish it were a Destiny Draw so I could get that Disc Commander or Dasher into the Graveyard.

I would replace Kurz with Thestalos to support the hand  control theme

I would also consider 1-2 Don Zaloog

    Have you considered Robbin Goblin?

I recommend that you swap out the Dark Coffins for Bottomless or Shrinks in preserve field presence and monster control.

It's not really meant to be a hand control deck, though.  It's made to abuse the cards that work best with Gearfried, which are Smoke Grenade and Blast with Chain.  Kuraz works with both quite nicely as well, along with giving me draws for the effort.

I wouldn't use Robbin' Goblin in this deck, again, the theme isn't to completely control the hand.  If it were, I'd use Trap Dustshoot, Mind Crush, and a third copy of Dark Coffin before using that card.

I recommend that you swap out the Dark Coffins for Bottomless or Shrinks in preserve field presence and monster control.

While I do like the idea, I haven't really felt the need for either card.  Blast with Chain and Exiled Force have often been more than enough.  I haven't been able to use Dark Coffin as often as I'd like, though...  I guess I'll have to do a lot more testing with each of the three cards.

    Re: Gearfried Control

Still doing some more testing with the Dark Coffins.  I think a few more duels should be sufficient, though, and then I'll be moving on to Shrink.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a side deck.  I don't view myself as being that good at building side decks...

I did notice - the hard way, unfortunately - that my deck has a tough time dealing with RFP decks.  I dueled one earlier, and it was only due to a miracle that I managed to win 2-1.  I'm guessing triple Dust Tornado is going to be a must, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas for the side.

Well, I posted a side deck, but it's just something I threw together so I'd HAVE a side deck.  I'd appreciate any help I can get with it.

    Re: Gearfried Control

Not much to say about the deck.  The only changes I've made so far are to the side deck.

    -3 Prohibition
    +2 Lightning Vortex
    +1 Threatening Roar

    Re: Gearfried Control

Well me, I always side deck at least 1 Kinetic Soldier, just in case you face a Warrior Deck.

I see you use a lot of Warriors as well, so why not adding 1 or 2 Rivalry of Warlords?
    Hope this helps !!

Hmmm, well, I suppose I could, although I don't know how much use a single Kinetic Soldier would be.  Plus, if my opponent Brain Controls it or Monster Reborns it or somehow manages to take it, it'll be just as painful to me.

Rivalry of Warlords is interesting, but I'm not sure how much use it'll actually be.  Six Sam, Zombies, and Plants are pretty much immune to it, as is Gadgets and Counter Fairies.  Lightsworn it might actually help out, since the sending of their monsters to the Graveyard could help them fuel Judgment Dragoon sooner.  Not sure how much help it'll be against DaD, or against Monarchs.  Guess it couldn't hurt to side it, at least for now.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll drop a Crow for the Kinetic Soldier.  Any ideas about what to remove from my side for the Rivalries?

    Re: Gearfried Control

After much testing, I've decided to make the following changes.

    -2 Dark Coffin
    +2 Fires of Doomsday

There were too many times where I would be forced to Tribute Summon Dasher in order to not be completely screwed over, and it was never a pleasant feeling to have to tribute an actual monster.  At other times, I would have an extremely difficult time summoning Dark Magician of Chaos, or I would have a hand full of tribute monsters and Spells/Traps, with no way to summon anything to protect me.  Fires of Doomsday solves all these problems, and the tokens can even be used with Kuraz's effect for extra draws if need be.

I'm a little worried that my Trap count might be a little too low to have two Masks of Darkness now, but I'd like to do a little more testing first.  I think three D.D. Assailant in the side deck might be too many as well, since I haven't sided them in as often as I thought I would.  The Threatening Roars have been quite useful, however, as has the single Kinetic Soldier at times.  I'll definitely be holding onto those.

I've made quite a few changes since I last updated this deck, so I figured I'd just post it again instead of updating the first post and just listing the individual changes.  It's actually gone through a LOT more changes than what you can see between the two decks, but some things were added and removed multiple times (such as Destiny Draw), while others don't appear at all (Karma Cut is one I was testing for a while).

I plan on building this deck in real life as soon as I can get ahold of a pair of Destiny Draw and Stratos, and using it in the next regionals (if they ever hold one near here again, that is...), so I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

    Re: Gearfried Control

    I recommmend :
    1) lucky axe if you would ever have to draw a card or even better...
    2) fusion sword murasame blade. Gearfried cannot destroy it and it will boost him up to 2600 ATK, more than enough to kill anything that movesBig Smile [:D].

    best strategy?
provocation, annoying and blocking ( with card effects , of course)

    Re: Gearfried Control

Sorry about the late reply, I don't visit this forum as often as I do others.  >.>

Lucky Axe requires my opponent to destroy the card in order for me to get the draw.  My own Heavy, Gearfried, and Kuraz will not work with the card.  More likely than not, my opponent will just destroy the monster and I'll lose out on the effect anyways.

Fusion Sword Murasame Blade may be immune to Gearfried's destruction effect and other types of Spell/Trap destruction, but if the monster dies it will too, and 2600ATK is still lower than many of the Synchro monsters, as well as DAD, Judgment Dragon, and Heraklinos.  Shrink is generally a better option than any Equip.
