I was not meaning to imply that he was and I apologize if it came across that way. I assumed he mainly ran WoW sneaks and I was just clarifying for other readers what we have been told about YGO sneaks.

He is an event manager for Unity Entertainment, the PTO for the Florida, Georgia and Southern Alabama region. I have worked many Yu-Gi-Oh! Sneak Previews with him. Great Guy!

Hypnotyc, that is what we do for WoW. However, UDE has stated that for YGO we should not be doing any kind of deck swap.

Actually, I do not think anywhere he mentioned that a swap is performed.

The PTO does receive a decklist with their event information. It has all the cards listed and 2 boxes by each card, one to mark the total number of the cards received and the second to mark the total number they use in their deck. Having the players fill out the decklist does slow down the tournament somewhat and it can be a little challenging for the younger (and new to Yu-Gi-Oh!) players. You may want to base your use of the decklist on the age and experience of your sneak preview crowd.

We run our sealed event as the first event of the day and then start the open dueling area about and hour later so that helps with the issue with the "super deck". As Franklin suggested we also have our judges in the area during deck construction to answer questions, pick up trash and watch for cheating.

I work with Hypnotyc at Sneak Previews and he knows that we do not do Deck Swap for YGO anymore. I believe he is simply explaining how a proper Deck Swap would go.

Personally, i think there should be a new starterdeck released with every series. That way when prerelease hits, the duelists are handed a starterdeck and only 2 packs.

But I know that would only be a mood point.... hey maybe i should get a tournament set up for that style. A person enters with the starter that they just bought, and is handed 2 of the newest packs, and can only use those cards for a tournament. That would be awesome, it would show who's the best at thinking on thier feet.

My solution for deck swaps has been the following:

Before each sneak preview we receive sealed deck checklists. We do not tell the players whether or not we'll be doing a deck swap. We ask them to ONLY register the cards they have opened on the decklist. After their 20 min registration time we collect the decklists from each of the players. They then receive an additional 30 minutes to construct the decks. We do deck checks on each of the four rounds, this is important as it shows the players that we are not laissez faire about the registration process.

Hmmm. In my Sneak Previews, we have Deck Lists with a list of all the cards in the set. I don't know if it comes directly from Upper Deck or the PTO creates one himself.

It's not so much that it's impossible, but with the number of packs each player gets, it's highly unlikely.

We had someone DQed for something else before we could investigate the highly suspicuous fact that they had five Psychic Snails in their sealed deck (we used no decklists).

When I opened all my judge product compensation, which is much greater than the five packs someone gets for a sealed tournament, I got one Pyschic Snail out of every 9 packs, not 1 : 1.

There still isn't a need to do a Deck Swap in this case. What is the difference between your scenario and one where someone participates in Open Dueling 3, does a bunch of trading, than enters the Sealed Event?

I would take precautionary methods to avoid cheating. I personally have the players clear everything from the table. Having a judge or two walking around is also recommended.
