wow minis questions for DMF San Fran

Couple of questions re: the WoW Minis game.

    1.     What is the procedure for players managing their minis?

    -         What happens when a player lifts their mini and the dial falls off and neither player can agree on its life total?

    -         Will players be required to keep track of each mini’s information on a pad of paper similar to how you would track life totals in a TCG.

    2.     How will game play infractions be handled?

-Player A makes an illegal play that goes unnoticed. Player B moves his mini and makes an action. It’s now back to player A’s turn and at this point both players see the illegal move. Will a judge rewind the plays or give player A a warning and keep game state the same?

    3. What is the standard amount of time for a player to make an action before it would be considered slow play?

    4.     If a player moves his mini to a certain square, takes his hand off of it then pauses for a few moments and decides he wants to move it elsewhere can he do so? Or is it similar to chess where once you take your hand off that’s where the mini stays.

    5. How are players to distinguish their minis when they are running teams that consist of 3 of the same mini. (example x3 Dralor)

    Thanks for the help,

    1) I'd reccomend taking a look Appendix D of the Policy Documents found here.
    Appendix D: WoW Minis Policies:
    D-19 Tracking Damage on Characters
For competitive tournaments, players are required to use pen and paper to track damage and clocks of each of their and opponents’ characters.

    2) And Appendix P found here. Which penalty is assigned, and the the actions taken, are dependent on what the judge called determines the infraction to be. There isn't nearly enough information there to be able to provide you with a definitive answer on what the appropriate penalty would be.

    3) Pretty much whatever the judge feels like. There is no set time limit for slow play, it is at the judge's discretion.

    4) I don't believe the policy document specifies this. I would recommend finding the head judge before the tournament and asking them. During a tournament, whatever the head judge says goes.

    5) Again, there is no standard specified way of handling this. Some options include putting each figure on a different base and sticking the character cards in color coded sleeves, or putting a small colored mark or sticker on the base of each figure and on their corresponding card.

Edit: Oh, and if you're going to type up your post in Word, I'd recommend pasting it into something like Notepad first and then copying and pasting from there to get rid of all that Normal 0 false false etc. stuff. ;)

    3. most of the judges i have spoken with seem to agree that just like in the TCG game 3 minutes is plenty of time to act upon your turn

    5. my two dralors have a number 1 and a number 2 on them the mini and the card then i use my third party member to separate them

As a Judge I would never recommend dispersing the idea that there is a certain time limit that players should be given or allowed to take during a turn, regardless.  This only encourages stalling and slow play.  If you tell a player they have a full three minutes to take a turn, then they will assume that means it is perfectly okay to sit there and stare at their opponent to wind down the clock, as long as they end their turn before they go over three minutes... and this is obviously not okay.

The time a player has to make a play or continue with their turn depends on many variables.  BlueRider is correct on this... it is at the Judge's discretion as to when a player is taking too long to make a play, based on the current situation in the game.

I would also like to point out that there is no policy or rule that states that there is an exact time limit for players to make a play in the TCG either.

well where we played we "had" a few people who would purposefully stall the game so they would get a match/game win so as i talked with the judges at our store (since they are good friends of mine), and if we saw them and they took three minutes or longer one of the judges would take action because 3 minutes in a 45 min round is a large chunk of the time

the reason the judges were not able to watch the players is because we had a large influx of new players and so there were a lot of people calling for judges

I think what he was trying to say, is, there's nothing wrong with choosing a time limit for a turn but if you do, keep it judge only info. The second you tell people how long they have per turn, that's when they start dragging things out.

Just to expand upon this.. if another player watching the match calls out the illegal move, what happens?  The judge and the people playing the game miss it, someone else in the tourney watching the game didn't.

This has actually been discussed at great length in other threads if you want to search for them, but basically, the person should quietly bring it to the Judge's attention and the judge will decide what the appropriate action should be (including stepping in and fixing the game state if needed).

Sorry, my searching hadn't brought it up when I did look for it, but thank you for responding.
